Value of a Gold Star Complete set, all PSA 9s

What would the value of a complete set of gold star cards (all 27 cards, some people do not include the non-holo cards from the POP 5 series but I do) all graded by the PSA 9? And should I sell it as a complete set or as individual cards? Also, what do you think that the value of gold star card will be in 20 to 30 years (Since I am quite young, I have nothing but time to sit on the cards).

Thank you,

SE

I have no input for you but I’m actually really interested to hear the responses! I just started back up with collecting and am just working on getting PSA 9’s in the sets I’m after. Figured I could watch my collection grow a bit faster and not completely destroy my wallet. Gold Stars have kinda been what I thought my end game would be after getting the WOTC sets I’m after so I’ll be tuning into this post to see what ppl think!

It’s extremely hard to predict what the value could be in 20-30 years.
I think it would be best to sell them individually though when the time comes. Most collectors probably won’t have much more money to spend than for 1-2 goldstars at a time. The amount of people that would be ready to spend for a whole set will probably be less than a handfull if even that. There’s also most likely going to be a high demand for people to complete their sets with the last few cards they miss.
The more people that will compete for each of your auctions, the more money you can probably get out of it

Not that I am experienced with Gold Stars in particular, but I am of the opinion that if you are looking to sell a completed set of any sort that it’s better to keep it together. A completed set naturally demands a higher premium because of the extra effort involved, and the price that people would be willing to pay for convenience cannot be underestimated. Also as with any set, there are going to be some cards that are more in demand than others. From the seller’s perspective, keeping them bundled together ensures that you are able to move the cards that may be harder to sell as well. To let the harder to obtain pieces go as individual auctions is selling yourself short.

Seeing collections broken up is also heartbreaking to me on a personal level. One of the most beautiful things to behold in the hobby for me is the cohesiveness of a completed set.

-Obligatory comment about uncompleted trios in the history of Pokemon cards-

:sob:

check the market value of all the cards , add them up and add another 500 dollars for the effort and convenience of getting all the goldstars in one go since you save a lot on shipping cost etc.

$500 / 27 = $18.50

Would you pay $18.50 shipping per gold star?

I don’t think anyone would.

I don’t think he specifically means that the $500 is just for the shipping of each card. For big collectors just the convenience alone of getting all these cards in PSA 9 from one person at one time is a huge deal, that’s the convenience that could bring the price up. Otherwise it could take several months, even years sometimes to find all these cards graded in mint condition. Some people aren’t willing to wait years.

On the other hand it would be very difficult I think to find a buyer for ALL 27 gold stars in one shot. In my opinion, I think the buyer would want it CHEAPER considering he’s buying them ALL from you in one shot, as opposed to the seller getting more for selling all in one shot. For the seller, it could be pretty tedious selling 27 different PSA cards. You could have to pay for shipping individually, if on ebay you would pay fees on each card by itself, also if ebay you could have to deal with people opening claims or being annoying in general of some sorts lol. For something this big and valuable, I think you would have to find a very trustworthy buyer to buy them all. So in this case I think it would be more convenient for the seller to find a buyer for every card at once, therefore having to take a bit of a hit and giving a bit of a discount considering it’s all going to one person for a lot of money.

In regards to the value of each card individually, I would just look at ebay completed listings and check the cheapest it’s sold for to give you a rough estimate. Some won’t be there though, so it’s really up to the buyer/seller to come to a price on some of them.

Hope this helps a bit
