I recently sold my PSA 9 No Rarity Ninetales to an instagram user named cardhouse.eu.
They received the card in a timely fashion and then immediately proceeded to contact me about how there was a “scratch” on the card. I never saw this scratch at any time when I had the card ungraded or when it was graded. I believed this card to be a very strong 9. This person then told me they wanted a full refund as the card was not “9 worthy” and they paid for a “9 worthy” card.
I responded respectfully that their issue is with PSA, and if they disagree with the grade of the card then they can contact PSA and if PSA determines the card to be of a lower grade, then PSA will refund them the difference in value between the two grades. They accused me of “trying to push responsibility to PSA” and said “what I sold was a farce.”
They refused to listen to any of my advice and attempts to help and opened a PayPal case. If anyone has experience in fighting these types of false and ridiculous PayPal claims I would very much appreciate it. The money from this sale really matters to me right now.
I would say state that it was profesionally graded. The buyer is basing their purchase off the grade given by the company. So if their personal opinion differs then it their disagreement is with the company not you. This is subjective matter which is why you got it graded at a professional company that has graded 26 million items.
If you get a Indian or foreign sounding rep I’d try again with another rep to state your case. This is a lot of money and I wouldn’t trust someone who doesn’t seem like they have a grasp on English to understand an arguement.
So I was/am in a similar situation. In my case, the seller claimed the card was mint, it was probably lightly played. Paypal decided that case in the seller’s favour, becausem, as far as I can undersand, the invoice didn’t include details of the goods I was buying (in hindsight this was a big mistake, but we live and learn).
As far as I can see they buyer doesn’t really have a leg to stand on: he wanted a PSA 9 card and got one. It’s not even like it’s a subjective thing. Whereas a lot of people have different opinions on what is near mint for example, when it’s already been evaluated by a third party as meeting this grade that they assign, what’s the issue? It’s not your job to evaluate the their evaluation. Okay, it is courtesy to point out any imperfections that you wouldn’t typically associate with a 9, but you would hope that they would see something as obvious as a scratch on the card.*
If his issue is with the grade itself, then, as you rightly told him, he should talk to PSA about that. Pretty sure Paypal will decide in your favour if he does file a case.
*Someone with more experience with PSA, do scratches definitely mean worse than 9? And do you see 9s in worse condition that having a scratch?
I’ve seen pretty bad scratches on 10s, even squared centimeter foil missing. It’s extremely rare but it happens. Usually the issue is on the character foil that if you didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to be there you wouldn’t see it. (probably why PSA missed it)
In general, you won’t find worse then a couple hairline scratches that are only visible in the right lighting on PSA 9s, even then you have to be determined to find the damage.
I’ve PMed that person a couple times and he has commented on my posts a few times as well. Kinda comes off as being an entitled idiot. Sorry about the hassle man.
Thanks everyone for the responses. Hopefully this will get cleared up quickly and I won’t lose my money. I’ll take some time so I’m not so pissed and then figure out a response.
@smpratte That’s crazy, I would have never done business with this guy if I knew it was him.
@swolepoke Who knows…I never said anything about it being a possible regrade or anything like that. Complete BS.
I’ve said this so many times before but the guy is a prick, he always shills or cancels auctions that are too low on eBay, sad to see his habits as a buyer are just as bad as when selling. Renazjuve is his eBay.
I had a shipping issue with him as well, and knowing what I know now I should have raised a bigger fuss. Best of luck with this… Such a lame situation.
Thought the name sounded familiar, case could go either way but hopefully his paypal account is riddled with strikes etc. and sways them in your favour
lts not the people being stupid that is the problem. I was just about to say this guy is the one who has 15k legendary dogs right? So obviously has some issues as a person, not his mental campacity. He knows what he is doing is not cool.
For instance… I am a stupid person, who does stupid things… But I dont go around opening cases against people.
FOR INSTANCE AGAIN! I JUST PUT ALL MY COLLECTION ON AUCTION A FEW DAYS BACK AND EVERYTHING WENT FOR SHIT ALL!!! YAY FOR ME NOW I HAVE TO GET RID OF ONE OF MY PRIZED POSESSIONS. So basically I have 2 cards left now, and 1 has to go to make the monies i was ment to make on my entire collection that went haywire Auctions are shit people… never … i repeat… never do them.
If you’re not willing to absorb a loss due to condition, then don’t buy. Learn how to make purchases in such a way to cut down on the chances of a condition issue. If you do your due diligence then assume 100% responsibility. Never ever return anything.
Yes, sometimes you’ll lose but usually your wins will more than make up for it.
