Warning youtube - Wanna be friends comment

I have noticed a lot of youtubers I watch have a guy commenting on their youtube videos as “Wanna Be Friends” from a guy named Logan. I noticed it on the most recent TCA Gaming video, Poke Rev video, and Lootbox TV video. I looked around on youtube, and there are now a few videos about it - it is apparently a hacker. If you subscribe to this guy or possibly even reply to the comment, he can hack into your youtube (and maybe other things linked to youtube account). DO NOT engage with this bot in any way.

Thanks all.

Other accounts spam in the same way - different names (one is “music”), often the same picture, comment minutes after upload on every one of my videos. They appear in every category of video, not only Pokemon. Careful with replying to new comments!

I got it as well, but looks like youtube removed it from the actual video. Hopefully that is a good sign, thanks for the heads up either way!

I got it on all of my videos also…

Any idea how a youtube account can get hacked simply by replying to a comment or by subscribing to someone? I don’t think that’s possible. Then again, I’m not a hacker.

I noticed these messages in a few comment sections lately and was wondering what it was all about.

Good looking out for the community!

Unless I missed something it is impossible for anyone to collect your IP or do anything malicious simply by respond to their Youtube comment.

If anything its a phishing scam or something that requires you to actually volunteer information unknowingly.

Their linked or liked videos are always stuff like “How to gain subs fast”, I guess they want to manipulate algorithms through presence in comment sections and through people checking out their profiles. “Hide user on channel” → all comments of one bot on your videos removed.

YouTube self promo spam channels that comment on a ton of videos in hopes that you’ll click their channel link after recognizing them enough times. In their channel is usually either a link in the bio or a main video that promotes whatever person or entity they belong to. Other examples of these types of comment bots are Tim and Tom.

I’m sure eventually youtube is going to flag accounts that are posting a crap ton of comments over a certain period of time or simply shadow ban them.

It’s likely just a phishing attempt or people trying to gain traction and manipulating the algorithm. If you were able to get your account stolen by replying it’d be a vulnerability within YouTube / Google systems.

I’ve encountered various tactics being used in the wild for phishing such as fake streams, malicious facebook ads, etc. As the Pokemon hobby gains traction it’s important to be aware of these things, stay safe.

How TF can you hack into someone’s YouTube account for replying to a comment. No need to fear monger.

Right here. It’s textbook. Overreaction about something insignificant to scare people. The literal definition of fear mongering.

If anyone believes this, I have ocean front property in Oklahoma to sell you.
