I want to grade some packs I have. They are sealed and look to be pack fresh(ish) but all have little nicks as shown. I am wondering what these are and also what a psa graded pack looks like up close. There arent many close up pics of mint packs that are graded already to compare it to.
theyre evenly placed so it makes me think its a factory thing
Super common on fossil
The nicks are normal and Factory Made however i’m not sure if PSA takes their positioning into consideration when grading (someone else might be able to answer that for you)
They are air holes and are there to allow expansion when there being shipped aerially.
IIRC every single booster i have seen have these from old to new
Yeah They’re on all the packs for fossil I have, my aquapolis packs have something similar but not as big. Also the aquapolis would be harder to compare since there arent as many packs out there to compare to. I figured most people would be able to ID some fossil packs
I heard something about those things sometime ago, I think they are made in the factory to negate any changes in air density during shipment via air. If these would not be pinched into the pack the packs could blow up a bit. I dont know how this would affect the condition of the cards, but my guess is not so much.
Nice that makes sense and sorta explains the extreme ease of weighing these packs. If thats the actual reason for them, I can’t imagine psa or cgc taking much off for them when grading the packs. I’ve never opened a box but I imagine if they come out of a box like this then thats as mint as they get
Not all of the packs have got those nicks I think, it is my guess as well that psa will not downgrade the packs because of this. I dont have experience grading packs so dont take my word for it.
What Thymeee said.
Cards should be fine inside, opened about 12 heavy base packs with the same cuts in the packs.
I should have been more specific, I grade the packs not the cards
I’m lead to believe that the grading is mostly based off of the artwork and print design - and that these punctures are standard so you shouldn’t be effected too much. I’ve seen packs with splits in the foil grade 9 and 10 so I’d assume it’s relatively inconsequential.
@modestmudkip, air holes…so the Pokemon can breathe! or maybe they were printed and packaged so fast they needed air holes for ventilation to allow ink to cure fully…would explain haunter lol
