Toploaders for me, binders for most others I’d imagine. And even though I’ve not been collecting long, it’s been hilarious how each subsequent PSA submission more and more of my “not worth grading” cards have suddenly become worth grading. And now that PSA appears to be putting more effort into generating comps and actually upcharging submissions, as well as likely increasing their grading costs even more, I’m glad the mid grade cards that I graded mostly for preservation have already been submitted.
Play with them! I build lots of decks and probably have 150 old ex’s and maybe 10 gold stars that aren’t in 8-10 shape that I’m happy to enjoy in decks.
is there anywhere that will sort and buy whatever you send them for a decent price? building buy orders across various sites is such a pain. Maybe some go to collection buyers out there?
I just use T&T. They typically have the highest offer prices. I also use CoolStuffInc on occasion, but their offer prices are usually worse . You have to do the sorting yourself, though. If you just want to sell an unsorted group of cards, eBay’s probably your best bet.
To answer OP, I just put them in a box. I have one of these that I really like. Its full to the brim with cards ranging from 1997 carddass to english DP era holos. All in penny sleeves or deck boxes that fit in the larger box. Time for a new one soon I guess. Sometimes I tell myself that I’m going to go through them and sort them into “sell” and “hold” piles based on which way I think the prices for raw cards will go and then piece them out on ebay. Other times I fantasize about finding some grifter on Virbank to give me 50% value in cash to be done with it.
For the last couple years, I’ve kept most of my <$30 vintage raw cards in toploaders. Specifically, upside down KMC perfect fit inside a non glare Pro Matte inside a toploader. I’ve started transitioning some mini sets/subsets (like my Call of Legends Shinies) into Monster Binders as I’ve completed them, but I think toploaders are a good way to store stuff that you don’t want to look through all the time. It’s about as secure as you can get, just tough to store the toploaders themselves. I have them in a drawer but they fucking slide all over the place.
)For cards that’re worth more than 20 bucks: penny sleeve and then toploaded. If above 100 USB, penny sleeve, then hard case - i.e, something that can’t be broken without a hammer. Hardcases with screwdowns are about a buck a piece - for example, I have a first ed lugia and T17 typhlosion - those need to be protected, and cards like that (lugia is 1k+ in value raw) should be protected. 1 dollar case for a 1k card is a great deal.
Putting M-NM cards in a binder with a penny sleeve, as long as the binder is stored flat, is an optimal way to store valuable bulk overall - but after a certain price point you should invest in upscale protection/storage methods. Think of it in terms of stocks, frankly - if you have stock certificates sitting around your office (nobody does anymore, but bear with me), if you spill water or some other minor mishap happens, you could lose it. Cards are the same way. After a certain nominal value, you should really spend a few extra bucks in protecting them.
I tend to avoid binders for anything valuable - anything of value I generally penny sleeve and then place cards into card savers. Anything not of ‘value’ either binders or just storage boxes
Why buylist when you can just auction as a collection? It’s what I do when I’ve got bulk with extra holos, and I usually get at least $100 even without including any holos.
