Today I woke up thinking about what the first Pokemon product I ever got was. What was the thing that started me on the collecting journey I’m still on today? It wasn’t a card from the TCG, or a figure, or even the games. It was a sticker album released exclusively in Latin America.
I remember having a really hard time finding the holographic James, and the last sticker I needed to complete the album was Staryu. I looked for it weeks until my neighbors finally traded for it.
Unfortunately I wasn’t very careful as a child, so it got destroyed over time and I remember using it a lot as reference when I was learning to draw.
Here’s how it looked like, somewhere under the grainy texture of the pictures.
Again sorry for the blurry pictures, but it’s all I got.
And what about you? What was your first Pokemon product, be it stickers, plushes, tazos, toys or cards?
Pokemon Blue version, my first card ever was a holo charizard from base set. I was a dummy and traded the card for a gyrados, and two other holos I can’t remember. I still have the gyrados and it ended being a shadowless one. My zard def wasn’t because all the cards in my collection are regular base.
@crios711
Blue was probably the first one I played, I didn’t own a Gameboy though.
Had to play it at a friend’s house every now and then.
And about the Charizard, shame you traded it but at least you kept the Gyarados until this day; I can’t say almost anything survived both my brother and I from that era except for a Cookie Monster puppet I still treasure.
@kingboo64
That tin looks cool, Black and White is a block I should pay more attention to.
A nice thread idea! Mine was topps series 1 booster from my parents, still love topps and still trying to complete the journey of getting all the cards made by the company, just missing one so kinda a childhood dream fulfilled if i ever find it
The Tiger Pokedex! It was super fun! I very much remember the distinct beeping sound it made for button presses.Still have the one I got back then but it sadly doesn’t work anymore
@mtajaj32 , I had no idea KFC had Pokemon plushes for the kids meals, the Dratini would’ve got me as a kid.
@warp , do you still have some of the cards from that time?
EX series has very cool pack art, immediately caught my eye.
@joponnes , Never give up! I hope you can find it and complete the collection; few things are as satisfying as completing a long time collection goal. @zaishen, That is so cool, I remember wanting one so bad.
The first Pokemon items I ever owned were a shadowless charmander and charmeleon that my friend gave me from his starter deck. The other kids had just started talking about Pokemon and made their own group at school, which you needed to own cards in order to hang out with them. At the time I really didn’t know if I wanted to be “in” but then I started watching the show and the rest is history.
My older brother came home from a birthday party with a Base set pack that was given in the ‘goody bag’ for the kids who came. I don’t remember what he got from it, but I remember he gave me a Staryu and that was my first ever card.
I vaguely remember opening up a base set pack from a 7-eleven of all places, but I can’t remember what I got, nor can I recall if it really was a base set pack to begin with. I remember sitting on the floor with lots of jungle/fossil/etc cards all around, so I must have gotten them from somewhere…
My earliest coherent memory of actually opening packs would be the DPP era tins. I think I bought all of them at some point… Every Target visit typically included me asking my parents/grandmother for a tin. Usually they said yes I distinctly remember seeing a bunch of Mewtwo LV.X and Charizard LV.X tins in my mind, but the other ones I had as well.
