I’m really interested to know what your favorite holofoil patterns are, and the reasoning behind your choices!
Here are my top three:
First up is Arceus LV.X from the Japanese PT Set.
I have never seen a holofoil like this on any other card besides those in the PT set, and the Arceus LV.X is my favorite in this set. I find it quite mesmerizing to look at.
My second choice is this Stantler from Unseen Forces, again for the uniqueness of the horizontal split Purple/Red Pokeball pattern. The Pokeballs appear 3D when rotated under light.
The original cosmos holofoil pattern will always be my favorite.
But beyond that, I really love the crosshatch holofoil pattern. I don’t think it gets as much love as it deserves. It’s one of those patterns that look significantly better in person.
I can never get a decent photo of it but this sparkle is nice and subtle. Doesn’t show up in my scans either but a slight tilt and you get a lovely sight.
The Deoxys reverse pattern really pops off on certain cards. And I really like the Emerald foil too. Also Silver Deck Dragonite is beautiful. I'd like to know what other cards have that foil pattern.
My personal favorite holo pattern is the saturn cosmos holo only found in some portuguese cards. Very niche but very beautiful and rare can also have regular swirls along with saturns. There is also an english trainer deck manaphy which is unexplainable. The manaphys saturn is limited to the right corner of the art box, while portuguese can have saturns anywhere, about half the print run have them. They seem to be darker blue and have come out a couple years before portuguese. Heres a few examples
-cosmo holo (especially reverse!)
-frlg reverse
-dp era “holobleed” (not a proper holofoil pattern, but it seems to happen frequently and looks so good)
-emerald reverse
Have to highlight that Saturn Cosmos Holo from HGSS era is exclusive from Portuguese while Pokémon Cosmos Holo from DP-Plat era is exclusive from Spanish
Thanks for additional photos everyone, some brilliant holo patterns, most of which i’ve never seen before. The Saturn Swirl is fascinating! I’m really learning a lot
