What kind of collector are you?

So trying to get to know the different people in the community and thought the best way to do that is to ask what you collect! So do you collect Sealed products, stuff from WOTC era, are you a set collector or just a high end collector? Do you collect error cards, grey cards, or off center cards? Or do you only collect PSA Level 10 cards? I’d love to know what everyone collects and what makes there collection different than everyone else’s! Look forward to hearing from everyone!

Honestly, I collect everything you mentioned along with periodicals, uncut sheets, gemmint charizards, foreign language, square cuts, and probably other stuff I can’t think of right now lol.

The very best, like no one ever was.

I collect every english set, japanese and english promos, sealed boosters and occasional boxes. I have some PSA cards, but would pick raw cards over graded most of the time. That may change once i have all english sets.

I just started back and loving it! lol Anyways my current goal is to collect 1st edition base PSA 9 shadowless. I think I’m going to end up spending more than some ebay listings with all minus holos but I find it fun slowly collecting them all. I appreciate each card I get. I am looking into getting some errors and signed cards. Super neat to me. I’m doing it for the fun and don’t necessarily plan on selling them. It’s nice to know that I’ll hopefully get my money back one day if needed. But I have gotten myself into trouble not checking all the details closely enough and winning some auctions that were not shadowless or first edition. Also I ebay messaged some sellers about other stuff they don’t have on ebay and then was promptly contacted by ebay that I was not allowed to do that. Whoops.

I am currently collecting all of the English Charizards in PSA 9 or above. I also collect WOTC sealed product.

What about yourself @mjisaacs

I collect purely Wizard of the Coast era from base set first edition through to Neo destiny.I don’t go beyond that in english. I know so many collectors love legendary collection, but I remember when it first came out and I thought it was so silly since base set 2 was so fresh in my mind. I get the appeal, but it’s just too much for me.

Besides that I also collect the japanese unumbered promo cards, special japanese promo decks and vending series cards.

I collect random cards. I mainly focus on cards that are good investments (ex. 1st edition base set Charizard), cards that have cute/striking artwork (ex. Japanese Jirachi promo #235 XY-P, the Alto Mare half deck Latios and Latias, etc.), and unique and “different” cards (ex. Exchange Please promo)!

Oh yeah I kind of forgot to mention that… I collect all promo cards, all sets (first edition and unlimited count as two different sets as an example), all 60 Card pre made decks, noteable error cards (not square cuts and stuff), and all the things I just mentioned in all 12 languages.
I really want to collect PSA level cards, but my bank account can’t handle that right now  plus one day it would be cool to own some Sealed WOTC product, but right now I would be too tempted to open it all so I refrain from buying them.

ATM just WOTC cards to finish binder sets, then slowly upgrading to psa cards

A little bit of everything. If I am in love with a set, I like to complete it as a “binder set” and I try to find all the different variances, 1st eds, unlimited, stamps, etc. If the set changes my life, I go for PSA 10s on the holos if I can afford to. I also got a few trophies that I just love. I also love collecting autographed cards that are sketched but I usually only get them when I get to meet the artist face to face. I also have my binders from my cards from when I was a kid. I refuse to replace them because I love how terrible the conditions were for some of them lol. In the end, collect what makes you happy don’t let anyone tell u “oh that sucks” or “that’s a bad investment” because if you are not enjoying the journey what’s the point?

I was thinking a lot about this and realized I’m just a collector at heart. I’m subject to collect anything…except money. For example, tomorrow I’m spending about 80k cash on collectibles and I don’t even care lol.

I like to collect cards of my favorite Pokemon and cards with artwork that I like, both raw and PSA graded. I also collect the original ex-era cards in general. I always buy a booster box of every new Japanese set, too. Meanwhile with English sets I stick to some booster packs with most of the new sets.

I just collect what I like. Doesn’t matter year or set; if I like the art and style, I try to get it. Don’t have a baller budget like Mr $80k up there , so I go for cheaper options when I can. Bought a reverse crystal Celebi in German cause it was only $50 NM as opposed to the $100+ it goes for in English.

Right now my focus is completing binder sets of all English WoTC sets. I’ve thought about doing PSA cards, but I realized that I would rather have more cards that I love than having less, and I wouldn’t be able to afford completing any sets in high PSA grades right now … Eventually I would like to start buying random cards that I like but that don’t fit into any of my binders in PSA form.

Except when I was your age I did exactly what you’re doing so now you can see exactly what lies ahead for you;)

I collect only promo cards in japanese and english. I’m costantly tempted by those sweet nintendo ex era cards, but i have a discipline!

edit: also i strongly dislike PSA graded cards. Promosin their original package instead are simply beatiful

Certain Japanese Promos and Certain First Edition Shadowless Base Cards Mainly.

I hope so!
