What made you buy your first CGC card?

Hey guys I’m curious what made you buy your first CGC Card?

Me personally I love PSA 10 idk why lol but as of late most of the cards I want in psa 10 are so hard to find but I see them in CGC 10 which is very tempting.

I too bought one to crack open because the cgc 9 was the same price as a lightly played raw so i figured why not

PSA was very backed up during covid and decided to try CGC out.

Even though CGC was newer at the time, I think I chose them over BGS and SGC because I used to collect PCGS and NGC graded coins, which are essentially the PSA and CGC of coin grading.

To this day I still collect both CGC and PSA. I think I’ve gotten over the whole blue to black label /grading scale change…and some anecdotal evidence of cases being easier to crack etc.

Collect what you like  in the case that you like  unless you’re a major reseller, then PSA might be the way to go haha

Not a reseller but always loved the 1st edition gyrados I want one but cgc seems more reasonable in a 10

Ive always liked their look with comics and like the way the blue helps some cards really pop visually. Shame it looks so generic now. Also it helped that I could find them at a discount compared to psa.

I have very little faith in any grading company or the accuracy of their scores, but a high score from the big 3 at least tells me that the card probably won’t be significantly scratched up, dented, or have other obvious flaws. CGC slabs seem to get less attention and I can nab them cheaper. Makes no difference to me

I buy cards that fit my subjective standards. Most of the time, they are graded by PSA, but on occasion they will be graded by CGC or BGS.

I bought my first CGC card because it was much cheaper than the PSA copies at the time. I cracked it, graded it at PSA, and now it sits in my collection. But I also have a few CGC graded cards that will remain in their cases.

OP, if the CGC copies look like a bargain for the condition stated on the label, I say why not? The company that you choose only really matters when you want to sell the card. If it’s in your collection and you don’t mind having cards from different companies, then you might as well get the best bang for your buck.

At the time I didn’t have a CGC graded birthday Pikachu in my collection. So I found a CGC 9 with sub grades and a blue label. 9,9,9.5,9.5. Listed a hour prior. Buy it now for $85. Bought it instantly. Looks really good. Super happy with it. Thought of cracking to see if CGC would grade it a 10. Then I’ll have 2 CGC 10s for a cheap price

Mainly for the matching blue color. And also the clarity of the cgc slab design

I was never that fussed about psa or cgc as “better”. CGC slabs are nicer overall, seem clearer and feel nicer. PSA are more popular and sell for more. It’s all very similar to me.

Since I am doing every Raichu in mint I just wanted a decent price primarily and some are very hard to come by already graded so I picked up the ones that appear in either company.

My loyalty is TO THE CARDBOARD

I wouldn’t buy a CGC graded card to keep it or to sell it.
The only way I would buy one is to break it out.

Lmao exactly this and exactly this card

I wanted to grade my eevee collection, but tbh I’ve never understood the PSA fuss. Of the “big 3” grading houses, PSA looks the worst imo and it’s not close. I thought the blue label was kind of fine, but then saw the black label redesign and was into it. Also the slabs look nicer AND CGC has the cheapest grading cost, which for a bulk grader is important.

They are ideal for binder collectors like me who bought good grades to crack. I bought a ton of them during the pandemic and would still happily crack them for this purpose. They’re perfect for that.
