What should I add to my collection?

I like collecting cards but I don’t like to spend a huge amount of money, therefore I don’t like collecting gold stars, shinings and base set stuff. However, I like collecting cheap items and cool Japanese promos.

I was wondering, with a small budget, what kind of cards are cool to collect? Please list sets or cool individual cards that are worth collecting.

The Japanese vending promos are awesome, the artworks are exclusive to those sets and won’t break the bank.

Japanese VS for all the same reasons shizzle mentioned.

Japanese Natta Wake Promos and T Mag Promos!

Unlimited Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket, Gym Heroes, and Neo Discovery are still pretty economical to complete, as are a good portion of the Gen 4 sets.

As the above Posts mentioned:

  • Japanese Vending Promo
  • Old Background Coro Coro Promo
  • I found that CP’s (from XY era) are easy and cheap to complete (First edition is the ones you would want to get)
  • Pokemon center exclusive promo are pretty easy and cheap to come by (some of them at least…)

Bandai/Meiji/Topsun/Nissui cards are cheap, you can also have some uniqueness to your collection as most people skip out on Non TCG. Ironically, when people view my collection the non TCG are the ones people tend to gravitate towards, due to not ever seeing them before, Vending series is in a similar position.

A few people here like to collect all the language/artwork variants of their favourite Pokémon. If you choose the Pokémon carefully, it could be a fun and relatively inexpensive collecting goal.

Or you could define another set-based goal. Like collecting all artwork from a given artist or collecting all the Pokemon center stamped Japanese promos, etc.

Personally I think collecting is most fun when you build a big checklist and slowly cross things off the list.

The posts above are all great suggestions. There are so many cards that were never produced in english with quality art and a unique release.

Here is the page I used for the past decade. There are plenty of cards you can find such as coros, natta wake, masakis that won’t break the bank ungraded. Here is a link to the vending sets as well.

Also there are plenty of modern japanese promo cards that might be of interest. The cosplay pikachus are a popular category, as well as pokemon center promos. Basically you have plenty of options, so just do some research and purchase what you prefer!

the JP carddass cards are pretty cool and fairly inexpensive for even a 10 set

Wow thanks a lot everyone!

The Japanese Full arts are pretty cool. If I had a strict budget and wanted to collect, I would build a binder collection of Full arts.

Japanese Full Art Trainer cards are very nice ^^^ The textures on the Japanese ones look and feel better than the english variant

Don’t forget, pokemon collecting can go beyond cards as well…

There is so many Dam awesome plushes, toys, figures, video games, accessories. Keychains. Pins, etc

Maybe one of my favourite things to buy lately in Japan is old promotional toys and accessories.
I found a Lapras radio… Made by mieji the chocolate company. It’s a dam chocolate company, it doesn’t make toys unless it’s a promotion.
A pikachu iron
A pikachu toaster as well.

Hehe

I know a lot of the suggestions have been Japanese cards which are great, but in terms of English cards that a relatively cheap i’ve really enjoyed collecting the Delta Species cards from across the original EX sets and even the reverse holo’s from these sets look amazing and certainly doesn’t break the bank.

wow, just looked at your shop. You have some nice collectable Japanese cards for a cheap price. Will consider having a better look.
