So what should I do here? Obviously I could ask the seller for a refund but he could just relist the card or even tell me that I should’ve looked closer at the photos (which I should have done but didn’t do because, you know, that’s PSAs job and what I’m paying for…). I heard of the PSA Financial Guarantee of Grade & Authenticity but I’m 99% certain that they won’t assume the cost of shipping from and back to France so this solution doesn’t really makes sense here considering the super low value of the cards…
Has anyone ever faced the same situation?
Well to be fair looking at the photos and back at the card the damages are more prominent in real life than they are on my screen.I only have about 50 PSA 9 and 10s but none of them have any defects of the sort (And yes I know full well that corners and edge wear are not the only things to look at)…
EDIT: Looking at the listing we can clearly see that the card is substantially damaged, yet the photo is blurry and not really zoomed in…
I’ll have to disagree with that statement. Yes, you are paying for the encapsulation of the graded card and the opinion of condition in accordance with PSA grading standards. This implies the concept of grading consistency and accuracy against a clearly defined scale. This is what justifies the existence of the PSA Financial Guarantee of Grade & Authenticity program.
Now no one is saying that every card should score their exact grade every time, that every weak PSA 9s should grade 8 and every strong ones grade 10, all of this is done by human hand after all. But large discrepancies, in this example the massive chipping occurring on the borders of the Latios card graded GEM MT 10, shouldn’t happen and if they do PSA will compensate the owner financially through this program.
Now since I’m clearly not the target audience for this program (at least in the particular case of low value items for international customers which is a shame), I was simply wondering if anyone had already been through a similar situation or had any tips since the possible outcomes I’ve outlined in the OP are not really satisfactory.
That’s correct you have the option of submitting the card back to PSA for review of the grade, and hopefully given sufficient compensation in the case that the grade is lowered. This is the route you should be taking if you are unhappy with the card. Considering the cards low value and the amount of months it would take to resolve this, I’d suggest selling it instead - making sure to take clear front and back pictures which highlight the cards condition.
Yup that seems like the most sensible course of action. But considering the low value of the card and the fact that I don’t want anyone to face the same issue I think I’ll just eat it up, keep it in a corner and send it to PSA if the opportunity arises. Thanks for the input!
BTW I don’t know how you guys can say that this card is worthy of a 10 I’m getting really concerned here, are a lot of 10 like this? The damages are really prominent even in blurry photos and the overall appeal of the card is greatly impacted, I wouldn’t put this in a binder…
Q: Do you guarantee the grades for my cards?
A: PSA guarantees that all cards submitted to it shall be graded in accordance with PSA grading standards and under the procedures of PSA. If PSA, in fact, concludes that the card in question no longer merits the PSA grade assigned or fails PSA’s authenticity standards, PSA will either: 1) Buy the card from the submitter at the current market value if the card can no longer receive a numerical grade under PSA’s standards, or 2) Refund the difference in value between the original PSA grade and the current PSA grade if the grade is lowered. In this case, the card will also be returned to the customer along with the refund for the difference in value.
That’s a horrible 10. I don’t care what the cert numbers is, check the card up and down before buying. I’m more skeptical about buying 10s than I am any other grade. If the seller doesn’t have satisfactory pictures of the cards, so you can see flaws like these, it’s up to you to do your due diligence and get them.
I mean thats the purpose of a 3rd party grader. Its sort of a mediator for quality. This one just fucked up. Ask the seller to work with you but I wouldn’t expect a refund due to him selling the grade not the condition.
