What was your cherished card as a kid that might be worthless today, but still holds a soft memory?
Mine was the 200hp Wailord ex from Sandstorm that had a spider web of creases and scratches. Despite its abhorrent condition I would brag about it to all of my friends because of its unheard of 200hp, and it’s still one of my favorite cards in my collection of now much higher end cards.
I just recently purchased the card graded but as a child the card I would dream about was the Japanese birthday Pikachu. I thought it was incredibly rare.
As for my own cards that I had back then the most expensive one in today’s prices is probably a shadowless chansey, shadowless mewtwo, or the 1st ed shadowless machamp (most common theme deck holo however shadowless has a premium) but my most prized card was the Articuno I got from a fossil pack which back then was probably more expensive than those shadowless cards.

Mine is a 200 hp wailord too, mine is the reverse one from great encounters. This one was the coolest because it had so much hp. I remember trading it for 10 normal rare cards, I had to have the card because that amount of hp was double of most cards I had ever seen.
Japanese Shining Gyarados from Awakening Legends:
As a kid, seeing this card in the Beckett magazine and hearing how rare it was made me wish I had a chance to grab it but i could never pull it from the few Japanese packs I managed to get from my LGS. So when I finally opened up an Unlimited English version, I had my sites set on obtaining this as my childhood grail.
Fast forward 10+ years later in 2014, thanks in large part to @japanime for his middleman services, I was finally able to get a mint copy. Seeing it in person brought me back to all those years ago when I dreamed of having this card in my hands.
The good ol’ Eevee Wizards 11. My friend had one and I thought it was the coolest and rarest card out there
I had that wailord card when I was a kid and gave it to my friend for his birthday. This mfer forgot he put it in his pocket and it went through the washing machine a few days later…
my brother had it, and i wanted it. i’m sure everyone is sick of me posting about this card, but i love it.
I love this thread idea! I also have a great memory with my SS Wailord ex. Mine would have to be all of my ex’s from Crystal Guardians-Power Keepers. Pulling all of them was really special to me and I still hold them all dearly.

Japanese Yanma from Neo Discovery. I pulled it and traded it and have missed it since. Why I haven’t purchased it yet is beyond me
Any ex was a holy grail for me. I remember being ecstatic to pull a Clefable ex. My friend accidentally creased it within a minute of my opening it 
. I still have it lol.
Weirdly enough, I had zero knowledge of gold stars as a kid. I opened a ton of TRR and Deoxys and had two Gold Star Torchics (which I regrettably sold for like $40 each on eBay back in ~2012-14), but as a kid I had no clue they were any different than normal holos. So yeah, exs were all that I cared about.

I thought it was the coolest artwork I’ve seen on a card. My sister and I would play the TCG in our own weird way and that umbreon would always beat her.
Was never able to pull Charizard ex FRLG. Desperately wanted.
