What was your first PSA card?

I thought it would be interesting to hear what people’s first graded cards were? For me I bought a japanese erika’s venusaur psa 10 for like $20.

My childhood collection. So like several 1st edition jungle, fossil, and unlimited base cards.

Was this before you went for 9s? Or did you just stick to 8/8.5 for those particular cards?

I started with 8s because I thought the $100+ PSA 9s at the time were too much lmao. I think I decided to go all-in on the 9s a couple years later after I started having a bit higher income.

1st edition PSA 8.5 Shining Tyranitar. (1 of 4 in the world)

I know a lot of people don’t like .5 grades.

I also know people turned my beautiful card into a meme.

I love my Shining Tyranitar I don’t care what anyone says it’s special to me!

PSA 9 Leafeon Lv.X. Bit of a random choice but it had a low pop and was affordable so I pulled the trigger on it.

In September 2017 a PSA 9 Totodile Side Deck Pichu was listed on eBay but at that point I was just a binder collector and wasn’t very interested in graded cards so I ignored it. That sold shortly after I saw it.

It wasn’t until March 2018 when another copy of the card appeared and it was PSA 10, so I took the plunge. I paid $77.34 for it and that’s the most anyone has ever paid for one for according to PSA’s APR page, but that’s okay because it went on to become my favourite Pichu artwork:

Looking at it now it looks pretty off-centre and looks almost damaged in the bottom corner - I’ll have to dig it out and make sure it isn’t a PSA 9 in disguise. I guess my standards have improved a bit since then.

It’s kinda hard to believe that that was less than 2 and a half years ago. My Pichu collection alone now consists of 75 PSA 10s and around 20 various other grades and I’ve sent off well over 1,000 cards for grading since then.

Only started collecting graded cards in December '19. Saw these up for auction and figured I have to go for them. Articuno was about 60 USD and Lugia was about 140 USD.

I have a psa 8 base set machamp from my childhood. No idea how I got it, only that I’ve had it since I was a kid. Maybe someone had it and I thought it being in a case was cool, didn’t even know about psa or grading back then. Still have it and the slab is kinda beat up. Still my only psa card to this day as I am not a fan of graded cards.

i jumped for a psa 9 base charizard. i remember making that purchase without much research. i got it for about 125 in 2016. this was before i knew i could look at sold listings on eBay, so i just went for one that was one of the cheaper options. i think i sold that card not too long after for a small gain, as i was not that into unlimited cards. but i do remember receiving that card in the mail. good times…and then i was hooked.

Wasn’t a purchase but a trade at a prerelease. PSA 6 Gold Star Mewtwo for a FA Charizard&Braixen, giant hearth SR, super scoop up SR, and 1 or 2 other cards. 2nd best trade of my life.
