Hey guys,
I think there was a thread about this previously, but what is the best way to clean cards?
I have some trading cards from the 80s and early 90s which are not wax, but nornal cardboard based cards. They have small scuffs and stains from being played with.
Any ideas how to clean them?
Here is the ones I am working on:
I usually use wet wipes and tissues to clean then dry and smooth out and marks left by the wet wipe.
The set is a 1995-1996 pokemon playing card deck.
I tend to use a microfibre cloth and normal tap water to clean a dirty card or finger prints off a holo, never once scratched one or left a stain after doing so.
By all means use distilled water but normal tap water will suffice for me

It is sort of like the wet wipes, but I can’t get these scuffs off… Maybe they are too engrained. I don’t want to wet it too much as it’s a bad mix to over saturate the card.
Microfibre cloth is a nice idea
Indeed you dont want the moisture to get into the card and then peeling on the edges will occur.
Perhaps some sort of natural cleaning product along with a small amount of hot water

I second this. Never had a problem getting dirt off of old cards with a good ole microfiber cloth and just water (tap).

Wow! Excellent topic!
Would you mind sharing in more detail how you do it? Do you just touch the holo with the wet part of the cloth?
I think Gary is an expert for this stuff. I think he mentioned a long time ago something about eucalyptus oil as well.
I’m not the best to showcase this, but I am just very delicate… Even the wet wipe, I stretch out and dry a bit so that it actually isn’t very wet. And try not to use heavy deodorising or scented ones. If it has too much chemicals it may affect the card. So try use the water based wipes best rather than disinfectant.
Also if your cards smell of cigarettes, there is a small way to clear this a little bit.
I’m not sure what they are called, but like scented towletes / tissues used for folding clothes and clothing storage can help deodorise cards without causing harm. It’s been a while since I’ve done all this…
As I lost most of my sense of smell about 2 years ago. But I used to do this when I was young with smokers cards.
Wrap Em up, place in storage a while, and usually smell a little less like smoke at least.

to get rid of cigarette smell you can also place it in a sealed box with baking soda, takes a few weeks but it gets all remnants of it out.

Eye glass cleaning kit. Lightly spray the towel and very gently rub the card.
