Finally got a new phone, and I’m ready to start working on my collection again.
I’m mainly working on my VS set, but I really want to work on something else besides that. My first packs ever where from the older EX sets (R/S, Sandstorm, FRLG etc.), and I’ve been wanting to complete these sets for a long time now.
Nostalgia is a pretty big factor for me, so it’s not that big of a deal if I loose money on this project (by opening boosters and such). I was planning on starting with a Team Rocket Returns booster box (one of my favorite sets), but I haven’t seen on on eBay for a long time now. I’ve watched some videos on YouTube, and it seems like most of them are in the hands of private collectors who exclusively collect boxes. It’s a shame because most of them won’t part with their boxes.
My question is, what do you estimate these boxes to be worth? If I suddenly come across one of them on eBay I need to snag them fast ;D
Those sets are pretty sought after. Expect to have to pay anywhere between 700-1000 or more. Whether or not they sell fast at those prices doesnt seem to bother the people selling them
I was fortunate enough to buy and open them all last year. Good luck finding them. Haven’t been up too often since. Strike when they come up as they only seem to be going up in price.

520 for Magma VS Aqua? That must have been an insanely good deal, because I’ve heard that those boxes are some of the harder to find for a good price nowadays.
Guess I’ll just have to watch Ebay like a hawk for the Rocket Returns box, I absolutely love everything about that set.
Tbh when boxes are so costly I think maybe buying singles would be the way to go, I know you said it’s nothing to do with financials but you would be saving yourself hundreds of dollars.
Fully understand that, but a big part of why I enjoy doing this is opening booster packs. I’ve been lucky enough to open up some boxes of sets I was into when I was young, and there’s nothing quite like it.
I’ve purchased lots of singles etc, but I never get the same enjoyment from when I open boosters, and to me that is worth the extra money.
It’s totally OK if people think this is a waste of money, but as long as I’m happy It’s worth it
Yeah there was one user who threw down just about the whole ex series at once 0.99 true auction no reserve and such. I won most of them. Very tight on the bank account that month but glad I did as every single box that I bought I have seen sell since for more. Sometimes substantially more. Personally, I have a goal to open all boxes and complete my own sets from there on. Only ex series I am missing now are the really tough ones. Dragon frontiers, crystal guardians, unseen forces.
