whats up with pop5 gold stars

Why are they so expensive? It can’t be just cause people like eevee and they are non holo

Very few packs have the goldstars, 1 in 30 or 40 packs can’t remember, the packs cant be weight and the packs already have a premium price.+ they are goldstars and Eeveelutions

They are 1/40 packs in POP series 5. Throw in the limited distribution of POP 5, the inability to weigh packs, and the fact that yes, people really like Espeon and Umbreon, you’ve got a big value card.

arent all gold stars 1 in 72 packs? thats even less frequent and yet regular gold stars are way cheaper? Was pop 5 very limited

Yes. Pop 5 wasn’t on shelves nation wide. Also you can’t weigh Pop 5 packs.

Yes, as someone who opened about 800 POP 5 I can attest to all of this.

also on an interesting side note. There were many stores that didn’t distribute these for whatever reason.
There are individuals out there who have/had 1000+ copies of these packs. Besides the limited distribution,
some of these packs never got distributed. Others have hoarded them over the years. I don’t know how much
this has contributed to the scarcity of POP 5 packs.

That was ages ago. I bought one of those positions, and the 2016-18 grade rush depleted a lot of those packs, some of mine as well.

Thats an extremely good point! Every other gold star has a japanese cheaper option. Where the Pop 5 are the cheaper option.

Here’s a little tidbit from Bulbapedia:

[The Player Rewards Program] allows players who compete in Leagues, Tournaments and Premier Events to earn rewards for their efforts. Attending one of these will earn players 1 “credit”. Each credit is a step toward a Rewards “Tier.” At the end of each quarter, Play! Pokémon distributes the Player Rewards to those that have earned them through the mail. At one time, player who played in 3–5 events qualified for Tier One and earn 5 POP booster packs; 6–10 events qualified for Tier Two, earning 10 packs, and 11 events or more qualify for Tier Three and earned 15 packs. Thus, players could earn up to 15 POP Booster packs each quarter (three months).

The release period for POP series 5 was from March 2007 - September 2007 (7 months). Since players received their rewards at the end of one quarter (3 months), I believe that at most you could earn 30 POP 5 booster packs. Assuming the 1:40 pull rate for Esps and Umbs is accurate, even the best player wasn’t guaranteed to pull even one from their earned packs.
