When do PSA 10 cards for newer sets bottom out?

I’d like to complete a set of PSA 10 shining Pokemon from Shining Legends. Right now the pop is low due to how recent the set is, so I’m assuming the sold listings on eBay are inflated to reflect that. I saw two Arceus with one selling for $200 and then another for $77 a couple weeks later. I’ve noticed the Japanese PSA 10s are hanging around $25 to $60. Is it within reason to think the English counterparts will reach that level?

I’d wager no, don’t expect PSA 10 English Shinings to hit $25. Japanese cards are simply not as attractive to English collectors, which is reflected in their much lower price. However, right now is a good time to get ungraded English for as cheap as possible, but I think not quite yet the best time pricewise for PSA 10 cards. People are just starting to get their SL submissions back from PSA over the past 2 weeks, which means the prices are going to start off high and then drop as the supply balloons when everyone gets their cards back and tries to offload them on eBay (which results in a race to the bottom). Of course, timing where the ‘bottom’ occurs is anyone’s guess, but I’d guess within the month.

Japanese is extremely easy to grade due to superior print quality:

Honestly I think your better off to wait several months, if you use any of the previous 2016/2017 pokemon sets as judgement, the longer you wait the cheaper they get on average. a few months later cards from evolution or steam siege are selling for a 80& discount compared to the first few weeks they hit the Market in PSA 10 condition.

Their was one card I was looking at which sold for 150 when first released in PSA 10 condition, I sold it 3 months after release for 75.00 via auction, few months later it had reached 20 dollars. but that wasn’t until nearly 9 months after release.

I think this applies for most cards, yes.

But for few it doesn’t. For example, the Hyper rare Charizard has been steadily selling for a couple hundred. And the Test tube mewtwo secret rare will also continue to fetch a high price because of its sacristy, and the fact that its hard to grade. MOST of the copies have the factory white print marks on the back, so getting a 10 or a clean 9 is hard…
One sold today for $55 which to me is really low…
The artwork is awesome, the card is a secret rare, and there were early print problems so its a harder grade… I see the test tube mewtwo selling steadily for around $100 for a 9 and the 10 for no less than $300-$400 for the foreseeable future.

Your absolutely right, charizard and a few other cards tend to defy the odds, and might not go down a lot or at all. But if your planning on collecting the set, on average I think your better off wait several months. You might pay slightly more for the charizard or another super rare card, but all the others you’ll likely save a fortune on.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I’ll probably wait to grab these Spring of next year. I’ve pulled quite a few shinings and the test tube Mewtwo, but they all have factory nicks and some level of OC. My Rayquaza is actually very OC and slightly crooked, with some dirt in the top right corner.

What I do now is buy them raw… I’m very picky on condition but I find the cards pretty cheap. The OC is crazy on this set… not a single Shining I pulled was anywhere close to Gem Mint.

Look for sellers that have dozens of these cards available and ask for their best copies.

I’ll be sure to try that! I’ll also probably hit up my local game store, noticed they had some singles sitting around last time I was in.

That’s a good idea. If they let you check condition you might get a few bargains.

I just received 2x Shining Rayquaza, 2x Shining Mew and 2x Test Tube Mewtwo. I’m about 90% sure I have a Gem Mew and Mewtwo, for the Rayquazas it’s a close call but at least the centering is good and there’s no odd damage/white dot.

I’m new to this so perhaps I should have waited, but I don’t think the Mewtwo is getting any cheaper than $30 or so for a raw mint copy. Shining Mew at $20 is also a no brainer I think. I could be wrong though! We shall see.
