I won a PWCC auction last night. Due to how many watched items I was keeping tabs on I didn’t see that PWCC mislabeled an Unlimited PSA 10 Mysterious Mountains Crobat as a 1st edition. I caught it this morning as I was paying my invoice. With the volume of cards they deal with I’m putting the mistake of thinking it was a 1st edition on myself, should have looked more carefully. I did look up the POP and unlimited is far more scarce than 1st edition with this specific set. Obviously 1st edition is more synonymous with the English WOTC cards, however what do you guys think about the Japanese equivalent does for the overall collectability?
Unlimited is for the tru collectors (unironically). UED collectors don’t get fooled by the fallacy that a stupid stamp always increases the value. They collect rarity.
When I see an UED connoisseur on e4, I always think to myslef “this guy knows his shit”.
1st Edition/Unlimited doesn’t really matter with Japanese eSeries. The values are generally pretty similar. As a matter of fact, some might argue that Unlimited is even rarer.
I have seen more 1st edition Japanese cards than unlimited Japanese cards in my life, I think Japanese unlimited on some sets may be more uncommon than 1st ED Japanese sets, but that could be me. I personally don’t have attachment to that stamp.
There are a couple-several unlimited english sets within WotC that are rarer and more scarce but as for now, people values more the “first stamp” rather than the scarcity.
Now for Japanese i’m not very familiar but something similar could be happening there.
