Where do you buy cards?

Where do you usually buy graded cards? I usually use PWCC and eBay but wanted to see if there were any other food options.

PWCC and eBay mainly. However, at times I’ve dug through many shops and websites and have found some good deals that way. Dave & Adams has some good sales once in a while on slabs and I also bought some from a place called Graded Power which was honestly a very good experience and had impeccable customer service (literally packed like a Christmas present).

Game stores I find tend to deal mainly in raw cards and not slabs, but you can find the odd slab for sale at them from time to time. You’ll also find them on TCGplayer, although I find it’s usually the low grade/junk slabs and not higher end stuff like PWCC/eBay.

You could also take a look at Heritage Auctions and Goldin Auctions. I don’t buy on them as often, but they often have some really good stuff as well.

Anyway, maybe just do a search for “Graded Pokemon cards” and you’ll probably get some places to your local area come up. Never know what you’ll find out there flying under the radar.

Yeah I wasn’t sure if there was a place like PWCC or eBay. I think they’re so good and have such a big selection that it makes other option seem kinda meh.

They’re definitely probably the 2 best in terms of selection and pricing and ease of use. I’ve definitely gotten the best deals through PWCC usually and it’s also convenient that you can store cards there as long as you need and ship them out in bulk when ready. Buying individual cards on eBay can add up a lot over time when you factor in the shipping costs for each card. With PWCC I can ship out as many as I want when I’m ready.

I’d still suggest shopping around at times, but it just depends what you’re after. I’d say 95% or more of my purchases are PWCC/eBay, everything else is exceptions usually.

I’m trying to find shadowless holos in 8.5. They’re just really low pop and rarely come up

8.5 in what grading company? PSA 8.5’s are usually an abnormal grade, you get either an 8 or 9 the majority of the time. CGC and BGS are a different story

Sorry yeah I should’ve specified. In PSA.

Why not go for the PSA 9? You may have to save up for a longer period of time, but it’ll be a more attainable goal.

No worries. I would recommend picking either PSA 8 or 9 and going with what you feel comfortable with. 8’s are great value and 9’s are awesome too. Either way, shadowless base is beautiful

I keep going back and forth between 8.5 and 9. Trying to see what would look best with my psa 8 shadowless Charizard

I’d personally go for 8s across the board for consistency sake. You could also upgrade to 9s down the road. Up to you though. 8s and 9s are both solid to me for any WOTC era holo.

I would recommend selling the PSA 8 Charizard and saving up for a PSA 9.

You’ve sought affirmation that a PSA 8 is a good grade in the past, which makes it seem like you are unsure if it is the grade that you want. Cards are supposed to be enjoyed. If the PSA 8 is giving you stress or making you feel self-conscious, it is OK to sell it and upgrade to a PSA 9 in the future. There will always be another Shadowless Charizard for sale, they’re not going anywhere.

That’s true. I may do that.

Take some time and think it through. There is no “wrong answer” here. No matter what (8, 8.5, or 9), the collection will look incredible.

I frequent boot fairs over here in the UK mainly searching for antiques and other treasures. My best pokemon find was a full jungle set with tonnes of extra jungle. Part fossil set with lots of doubles/trebles etc. Decent amount of extras ie a couple of ancient mews all for £6.50. There’s been a few good finds pokemon related but it’s quite gappy. I don’t go to find pokemon I just come across them sometimes.

If the 8 looks mint enough, I would actually crack the slab and resub. Will not just sell it and top up cash for a 9. Have seen other people and personally experienced getting back a 9 or even 10.

I’m scared to crack lol. I’ll take some pictures this week and see what E4 thinks of the card
