I’m coming towards the end of a large mile stone within my personal work and I wanted to reward myself for this accomplishment. I have been collecting for the past four years and its almost solely been slabs and I’ve opened 2 modern booster packs randomly throughout the time haha.
I wanted to reward myself with a small experience of opening a pack/box (depending on price). I was wondering which set did you really enjoy opening that you find relatively affordable ($40-$70 for a box or decent amount of packs)?
Idk if im the odd one out with these choices but my son and i had fun opening obsidian flames (more so him) because of the whole charizard theme, so if thats your cup of tea. But i really liked the artworks in paradox rift (yeah yeah) and paldea evolved (i want that magikarp)
Crown zenith for me. Me and the wife had alot of fun seeing all sorts of pokemon with great artwork, and had a good time getting cards we wanted. I dont open too often though. Twilight masquerade made her happy too though since she likes ogrepon.
Firstly congratulations on the milestone. I am sure it is a great feeling and a worthy celebration.
I personally don’t open any packs, but I had the most fun watching openings of VStar universe, which I think is Crown Zenith in English. Really fun to watch with some beautiful artworks. I also enjoyed 151 in bits and pieces.
I think Ancient Roar also looked really good to watch if you consider SV era, which I think is Paradox Rift in english. Again, my experiences are purely as a viewer.
You can’t go wrong with one of the high class Japanese boxes. VMAX Climax or VSTAR Universe the two best choices but Shiny Star V or Shiny Treasure ex are fun especially if shiny Pokemon appeal to you.
I’ve opened 4 or 5 Japanese boxes this year plus some packs but nothing has come close to Vstar Universe. The art is awesome and you get a bunch of hits which always makes things more enjoyable. I think the box was like $50 or so as well so fits into your price range.
I don’t have any experience with boxes pre SWSH so others may know of other great boxes from previous sets but I’d be surprised if they fell within your price range.
Echoing others, vstar universe/crown zenith or 151 are probably the most fun ones from the more recent sets. Personally i’ve enjoyed the most the sets i’ve intended to complete or at least partly complete so 151, pokemon go and generations were the most fun ones for me. Tho it’s also tied to my luck about what i pulled since i celebrations i did try to complete but i had absolutely hideous luck with the set so it left a bit bad taste in my mouth, on the other hand i had no skin in vivid voltage but i did have some decent luck when opening it so it was very pleasant experience, those amazing rares imo really made the set better than it actually was! With 151 my luck wasn’t that great either but the set and all the beautiful bulk art in it made it impossible not to like opening it
Celebrations was the most fun I’ve had of recent. Crown Zenith is very affordable right now and pretty widely available. The japanese equivalent set and most japanese sets are cheaper per box than anything you get in English. 151 is popular for the gen wunners, but I didn’t really connect with that set.
I open JP sets now; English just became too full and uninteresting to me.
My favorite sets that I had opened would have been Triplet Beat (ENG Paldea Evolved), Raging Surf (ENG Paradox Rift), and surprisingly Ruler of the Black Flame (ENG Obsidian Flames).
All of them have excellent ARs, a decent selection of SRs, and beautiful SARs.
