Who's that Pokemon ? - CT Scanning - 1st Ed Base, Skyridge Heavy Packs

Hey everyone,

For science and for general knowledge, I took the plunge and sent in Heavy 1st ed packs and Skyridge packs to the IIC for CT Scanning and here are the results.

I wanted to share my experience so far as this whole CT Scanning has been on everyones mind.

Just to add some fun, lets play “Who’s that Pokemon?”

This is a 1st Ed Heavy pack (21.3)

Results

If you look at the profile, it is kind of obvious that the thickness/material at the 4th card is different from the rest of the card stock.

However, when you look at the face scan itself, its sometimes very difficult to tell what it may be. (guess this is the game of “Who’s that Pokemon”)

Who can this be ? [ Pack 1 ]

I’m actually kind of amused that it wasn’t so obvious for at least this particular card.

Here is my 2nd 1st Ed Heavy Pack (21.2)

Who can this be [Pack 2]

One this is clear, when the scan goes through a holo, the density does show a darker image on the background

I also tried this for Skyridge and i feel … we might actually be okay with this set, it is nearly impossible to see what the cards are

What cards do you guys this thing can be? I can see the trend in the market moving forward being … for every pack you want to sell, you need to send out a scanned report.

In conclusion… Who’s that Pokemon for Pack 1 and for Pack 2?

Are these the only images provided?

I have the full Scan file I can share with the community/screen share or something. They are kind of large (1GB per file).

It allows you to scan through the layers. Would be neat to do a vid on this and go through it live.

This is far less clear than what is advertised on their webpage. i understand it will be a case by case basis, but i would expect it to be alot better than what is shown.

Also scanned a Heavy Shadowless pack, and in this pack, the image is bit more clear

Might still be too soon to see anything. Try again during the third trimester.

I honestly have no idea. I would say 1st pack could be Alakazam and the second pack could be a Chansey?

Interesting. What would be different compared to these packs with the more easily discerned “base unlimited” they advertise on the website?

The Charizard silhouette is painfully obvious.

I would share the entire file or do a vid

maybe the pack could be full of common/uncommons?

Potential reseal??

I got the packs from a reputable seller (EA Collectibles 99). Don’t think its a repack, but perhaps … i can potentially bite the bullet  or start a donation fund here to open the scanned pack :D. someone want to host me for a vid :D.

Can i clarify if this was the $75/pack scan and that the company provides no input on analyzation, only provides you the scan file?

You know, when I said “what they claim is incredible technically speaking” in the discord, I felt like I was being a hater. But now… :eyes:

That’s really tough to see. I thought it would be easier, but maybe worth a look at 15 per pack? Certainly needs more refining. I think with certain sets with well known hits it may get optimized with enough scans but good to hear skyridge had such poor results. I can see the shadowless Mewtwo in that one.

Guess 1: Magneton
Guess 2: Poliwrath (Really hard to tell)

This is way less clear than the pics @gdark posted. I wonder why?

its the $75, they do try to find things for you, and these were the result “bookmarks”.

yeah the images are not as clear as I would have thought it would be. I do include 2 top loaders back and front of the pack, maybe this distorts the imaging a little? (doubt it though).

I wonder if they changed the card or holo stock for base 1st ed vs Shadowless vs unlimited.

So much for CT scanning “ruining the hobby”!
