I’ve recently been on the search for collecting the black star promos in psa10. Does anyone know why eevee is a card in the collection of 50+ that comes in both holo and non holo? Are there any other cards in the set that also have both versions or just eevee? I appreciate the help!
It was rare, but occasionally WotC printed holographic versions of Japanese promos for their western releases.
GB Meowth, a card whose Japanese origin is the same as Eevee (Japanese Rail Stamp Rally), was also printed with foil despite being non-foil in Japanese. One reason for doing this may be that the card was already in English even though it was a Japanese release, so the foil helped differentiate the releases. The “non-holo” you are thinking of is the Japanese release and is not part of the WotC Black Star promos set.
Dark Persian was also printed holographic despite being non-holo in Japan.
Oh wow, I had no idea the whole origin behind it. That’s awesome thank you. So if I’m truly trying to collect the west wotc black star I need the holo meowth and also the holo eevee. Makes sense to me. Any other pointers to truly having the whole set? I’m currently working on a psa9 dark Persian error no hp and also a 1st edition error ivy pikachu also in psa9. I can’t find either in psa10 which bums me out but I’ll hold onto the 9s until I can try to come across something later. Any advice I appreciate your help.
Holo Venusaur will be the greatest challenge
So there are 53 numbered Black Star Promos. There is only one of each card except for #51 and #52, which have stamped versions from Pokémon Center New York. They have the same number and are differentiated by the stamp.
Outside of those, there were “miscellaneous” unnumbered promos released during the WotC era, like Ancient Mew, Prerelease Stamps, and tournament prize cards. It is easy to collect all of the promo cards released during the WotC era, the numbered Black Star Promos are just the core set.
