While I was talking with a friend I thought about the day when the ‘‘new’’ pokemons will replace the old ones, we’ll continue to see Pikachu, Charizard, etc…, but I guess one day we’ll have 99% of the pokemon released in a new set belonging to newer generations and maybe they’ll throw a couple of old ones as promos or something like that.
This is just a random thought that I wanted to share to elaborate with you all. In like 10 or 20years when the current children have grown they’ll be familiar with newer pokemons and therefore we might see a decrease in the oresence of the first pokemons, or maybe they’ll release targeted products for the nostalgic people.
Since I tend to like the old pokemons that I’m familiar with and I’m not too excited by the majority of the new ones ( I mean, an ice-cream pokemon?! and I guess it’s already an old pokemon).
Also, do you think they’ll print in the future more ‘‘extreme’’ or ‘‘violent’’ artworks? Like for halloween with more blood, maybe targeting old collectors
Nah I don’t think so. The only reason they stopped printing baby pokemon was because they’re completely worthless in the TCG now due to the power scaling and can’t come back into the meta by design. They have the durability of dolls, but almost none of the utility, and if you give them power creep then they are just equal to or better than the stage 1+. They can keep increasing the power levels of fully evolved pokemon as much as they want though, with no real drawbacks
If they continue the trend of not including a national Pokédex in the video games a lot of the earlier Pokémon could very easily be forgotten about. I think they’ll always do special promo sets featuring the original Pokémon though as it gives people who are now parents who grew up with Pokémon themselves something to be nostalgic about when their kids open packs (not that kids are able to do that any more, mind you).
Considering generation 2 Pokémon like Pichu haven’t had their own cards included in any sets in over 10 years I can see a future where less useful Pokémon will be lost to time.
I would rather they don’t release a new generation every 12 minutes and make remakes such as Kanto or Johto etc. And LGE and LGP don’t count lol. I’m talking about a top down view where you move in 4 directions. More advanced isn’t always better. I can name many of the Gen 1, 2, 3, and even 4 Pokemon regardless of the species’ popularity. I don’t even know the name of the starters or legendary Pokemon anymore because of how low quality these Pokemon are.
Mewtwo held a huge position in Pokemon when he came out. He still does today. What about Zacian? I don’t even know the name of the other one.
Pokemon needless to say is a business and they make more profit when they print Charizards/Mewtwos/not Zacians.
I honestly think I’d rather have a Snorlax, Chansey, or other non-legendary than Pokemon Sword’s poster boy. Many other’s share this mentality, and it’s the reason why demand for older Pokemon exists, and not so much for new ones.
I’m sure many will disagree with me, and I hope they do, because the last thing I want is for this franchise to have a decline. And it goes without saying but the quality of Pokemon is only declining to me. Kids might glorify Zacian like I did Groudon. We don’t have enough history in Pokemon to see how generations cycle in and out. Who knows what will happen in the future? What if after 10 Generations there’s a Pokemon 2 and we’re back to a Generation 1. I have no idea what the future holds, but speaking for the present, it would be great if we could have a game that operates with the traditional game mechanics for older fans of the hobby.
The more diluted the pool gets you’ll just get really long stretches between print runs for really obscure mid era Pokemon (and some likely won’t be printed all together) but I think gen1/2 and the most recent gens will always get disproportionate printing.
Stop completely? No way. If anything I could see them bringing them back every once in awhile kinda like how wrestling brings back legends to the shows every once in a while instead of completely tossing them aside.
Fist generation bebe. Some people still can’t shut up about Evoluitions, that also doesn’t feature 4 of base sets most important cards including 2 of it’s 3 starters.
The elephant in the room here is the fact that GameFreak was a lazy, undertalented piece of shit development company for well over a decade. They had one of the most popular IP’s in the world and the best they could do was regurgitate the same damn game over and over again with different sprites. Now, 25 years later we are finally getting stuff like sword/shield and now an upcoming open world game. It’s very possible that we don’t need to keep adding on tons of new pokemon if GameFreak + collaborators begin to handle world building and story telling better.
I think you may have a bit of bias to be honest. I never played D&P but know lots of guys who are in their early 20s who know Gen 4 very well.
I played the latest game and also know and really enjoy the latest pokemon. Gen 1 will always be recognizable by most, but it has a lot to do with the games you play. Playing the latest games also gave me a way greater appreciation for modern TCG. Especially the direction the releases in JP are going (Following the expansions right now)
