(WIP) Japanese Top Seika Pokémon Gum Card Checklist (2002+)

This is a work-in-progress (WIP)
I’m creating this thread as information about these cards is difficult to track down. To my knowledge, these sets of cards follow on from the much more popular Topsun collection from 1997. If you’d like to know more about those, PokeBoon has a great article about those here. I believe there’s also a set between those and the “GBA Card Gum” set which starts this thread, but I could find absolutely no information about those whatsoever.

If you know more information, or information I’m missing from below, please do let me know!

All of the cards listed below were distributed by トップ製菓 (Top Seika; topseika.co.jp) between 2002 and 2007.

Most of the release dates in this thread are from product information made available on Card Check Box, a Japanese website which, for whatever reason, has detailed information about Top Seika’s produce (available here). The information on this website isn’t 100% complete, so the release date information in this thread isn’t 100% complete either. If anyone knows more, please do get in touch and I’ll correct stuff.

As a disclaimer: I do not know Japanese, so the names of everything here are from their manual research (Pokémon names) or Google Translate. If anyone has better translations for anything, please let me know!

ポケモン GBA カードガム (Pokémon GBA Card Gum)
210 cards; 2 cards per pack; pink/red border

**Incomplete!**If you know what the missing ones are, please let me know.

The initial release of this set is unknown, but is likely to have happened in early-mid 2002. The initial release added the first 85 cards to this set, followed by a second release in November 2002 which introduced cards 85 to 101; a third release in May 2004 which introduced cards 102 to 151; and the final fourth release in March 2005 which introduced cards 152 to 210.

This Japanese Geocities website has pictures of almost all of the cards listed below: www.geocities.jp/viola_9338/card-gum1.html.

ポケモン GBA 3Dカードガム (Pokémon GBA 3D Card Gum)
100 cards; 3 cards per pack; white/silver border

The first release, apple, in March 2004 introduced the first 50 cards, followed up by a second set, grape, containing 50 more cards in October 2005.

This set mimics the ポケモン GBA カードガム set from above, but (presumably) have a 3D effect as well as the different border. If it’s true that only 100 cards were released in this set, it would be interesting to know which of the 210 in the other set were reworked for this one. This Tweet by @teakumicat_ shows a set of these, along with a partial view of what the gum pack looked like, as well as a comparison between the 196 card from this set and the previous set.

I’m intentionally not including a checklist here, as for the time being I can only assume the checklist for this is the same as the one for the set above.

ポケモン AG カードガム (Pokémon AG Card Gum)
52 cards; 2 cards per pack; dark green border

The first release for this set happened in March 2006 which included the first 46 cards. An unknown number of releases later introduced a following 4 numbered cards and 2 holographic unnumbered cards.

It’s also worth noting that there’s another set of very similar cards which I haven’t mentioned above. I have no idea where these are from, or if they’re relevant to this thread at all (front/back):

I’ve added images to all the known cards from the ポケモンGBAカードガム set on my GitHub research document for this set: github.com/PokeTCG/research/blob/master/GumCards_GBA.md.
If anyone knows the cards I’m missing, please do let me know. I’ve got a big box of these cards arriving from Japan some time in the next month, so hopefully I’ll be able to use that to fill in some of the blanks if they haven’t been already.

Hey there! Seems like the GBA cards in the set are directly related to the pokemon’s corresponding Gen. 3 Pokedex number, so should be simple enough to fill in the blanks using this! bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_by_Hoenn_Pokédex_number_(Generation_III)

Well spotted! That’s a fantastic find. Thank you.

Reviving this thread because I was hoping to get more info…
It does say (WIP) after all but several users here (and there’s not many) aren’t taking DMs.
I just completed the Blue set of TopSun Vs (all 50 of 'em, pretty feasible), and have been maintaining this document: Non TCG Card/Stickers - Google Sheets
In the meantime, I’m noticing a that split in 3D cards that are the same as the Red Borders… and that discrepancy that @Pichufan caught!
I just closed on a bunch of the reprinted Red Border 3D’s, but I’m more interested in the “different cards”.
I believe this to be one: メルカリ
This means I got the Cyndaquil, Feraligatr and Scizor thus far with those.
And am sure these are done by National Dex, btw.
Does anyone have a list of the 3d TopSeika/sun non-Redborder remakes?

@Captain_Corsola said they might possibly have a complete set of the 3D-only set, if I remember our DMs correctly. I don’t think a set list exists though (at least, not that I know of).

Hey, recently got this for my Mewtwo collection. Never seen these before, anyone knows what top seika product it is from???

Thanks for the response! I will try to add any setlists i have to that TopSun Vs tab I have, and i’m out here buying up each new 3D i find.

I’ve also been cataloging the Top Seika VS sets here. I have been getting through it slowly though and am only up the the pink-border Advanced Generation ones. I should be able to put together complete set lists for the blue and green border sets though, through other resources and pictures of complete sets I found on Yahoo Auctions. I just need to find time to transcribe them and put together what information I can.

Hopefully Captain_Corsola responds, as they had offered to take pictures of their thought-to-be-complete set of the 3D cards (both 3D-only and pink-border reprints). I have pictures of their pink-border 3D set, if you’d like a set list for that. I can put it together fairly quickly if you’d like.

Yeah I finished Blue and am attacking Green rn. I can definitely help with scans even, of most of these. I’m really into the 3D though; one purchase i made had 6 different glasses and you peel off the eyebrow portion of the glasses apparently to get different pairs.
All six my purchase came with had them torn off already and 5 different ones were present.

I’ve seen the 3D glasses before but didnt know there were different pairs. That’s kind of neat!

Greetings!

I have the non-Pink Border 3D set in my storage unit, but luckily, had taken pictures of them last time I helped @bbobrob. Below are observations and pictures of all the cards I have, including extras to show the Tie-dye and League Portrait back variants. I’ve been collecting these for over six years now, and have yet to find a new Pokémon, back variant, or attack variant. I don’t have a set list, but will work on getting one created and will share here when done. Let me know if you have any questions or want additional pics!

Observations

  • There are two Pokémon that have attack variants, Pikachu and Cleffa.

  • There are three different back variants:

    1. Non-3D: Same exact image as the front, but without 3D layer. If there is a non-3D variant, there is also a matching Rainbow variant.
    2. Tie-dye: Pokémon is surrounded by tie-dye colors, these look really cool under the 3D glasses btw.
    3. League Portrait: It makes me think of the Pokémon being at the Pokémon League and getting an official pic taken lol. These have no other matching variant, and both attack variants (Pikachu and Cleffa) fall under this back.
  • I’ve seen two different pack variants, but didn’t take pictures of those.

AMAZING! Wow @Captain_Corsola that is hella impressive.
I’m going through trying to find as many as possible now too, and I’ll use these pics to compare to as i search. If I find anything new/different, I’ll definitely update this thread. Thanks!

Very cool to see them all! Thanks for posting! Will be awesome once you have some time to catalogue all the cards :slightly_smiling_face:

We’re sorry. You can’t access this item because it is in violation of our Terms of Service.
Weird I’ve never gotten that message before. It’s what pops up when I try to check your setlist.

I’m getting that error now too. Though I could see it just yesterday.

I’m not sure what’s going on. Getting the same message when I try to open the file. It looks like I have to request Google does a review of the violation :man_shrugging:

Will try creating it again and sharing that while I get the original reviewed, I’m very curious what would violate Google’s ToS
