I wanted to make a proper collection thread to show off major achievements and progress around my main collection goals. Below is my background as a collector and what my collection goals are.
Background
I’ve been into all things Pokemon from as early as I can remember. My parents were into the tcg shortly after it came out before later moving on to MTG and they gave me their collections when I was a young kid. The first sets I opened were neo and I collected until about the end of the diamond and pearl era before largely moving on from collecting. I got back into collecting as an adult in 2018 with shining legends.
Since I’ve got back in to the hobby, my main collection goal has been to complete binder sets for every set from base set to the end of the ex era with power keepers in English. Generally first edition if I can manage. This also includes the two Japanese exclusive sets VS and Web making a total of 33 sets .
This is my first complete set out of my goal of 33 sets so it will hold a special place in my heart. This set was one I primarily completed during lockdown and was very fun to complete because it was so cheap. I got every ex for under 20 bucks each and some as low as 5 bucks near mint. Although, finding out about the deck versions made it a bit more annoying as I had to rebuy the correct blaziken and gardevoir as well as several non holos (some multiple times since I kept getting sent incorrect versions from Troll and Toad).
You know I’m a sucker for beautiful collection threads! It’s looking mighty fine. Great way to start it off, personal touches look great, awesome presentation, great first set to show!

I’m glad to have Shining Legends as my 2nd complete set ever as it’s pretty special to me. I was probably bound to end up collecting Pokemon cards again as an adult, but it was Shining Legends that brought me back to collecting back in 2018. I had noticed and been tempted by it on the shelves for months whenever I went to Target which likely resulted in me pulling out my childhood binder one day and subsequently looking online to buy Pokemon cards. The first cards I bought as an adult were some old beat up neo holos. I met up with the seller at a Target, bought the cards and picked up a Shining Legends mewtwo box on the way out. Later that night I opened the three packs and pulled the ‘Mewtube’ alt art, the same one shown in the pictures below. Beginners luck indeed.
Shining Legends is one of the last modern sets that was fun to complete imo. A set with less than 1 hundred cards and lacking 4 pages of different secret rares and full arts. I had opened so much of this set that I figured I might as well go for a master set, but this is likely the last master set I’ll ever complete.
Nice update with one of the best modern era sets! I don’t know what’s it with the beginners luck but i too pulled mega charizard ex full art from my first evolutions packs when i returned to collecting, still my only chase card pulled to this day looking forward to seeing more updates and your retirement day with the finished collection!
