Going to start by saying, Hey this is my first post here and i’m a super noob to the community wont lie! Was a huge fan back in the day but like many others got too cool for school.
Recently got back into it and man I am hooked. I’m some of the cards that I gave away/lost missing in my binder and planning on completing it soon.
So yeah back to my question I was just wondering if you guys think its worth sending in some cards if I know they aren’t gonna get psa 10. They are all from childhood so I wasn’t really thinking about keeping them mint lol.
That being said I do have a few cards that I looked up that seemed valuable still like shining mewtwo neo genesis and base set venusaur. Both could probably be a 7-8 I think
(only card I was excited for is gone sadly which is my blastoise F in the chat)
Yeah I planned on keeping at least one copy of each card regardless of price they are very sentimental to me I was smiling the whole time I went through my binder.
But thanks that answer does help a lot actually I didn’t even think of the preservation / display part of it! thank you!
personally i keep my sentimental cards in binders as there nicer to view in a binder neatly next to each other. but if you want to display a card/cards on your mantle piece then grading would be the one.
I recently sent in most of my remaining childhood non bulk cards that are in at least decent condition and not part of a complete set to be graded. I just want to give them some extra protection and maybe display them in some way eventually.
I think they’ve said it all for you. I agree with the general consensus. Grading has its benefits, but so do binders. I’m with @gen2whore. I love the binder, and generally prefer them to be able to be sorted to your desires. But graded not only virtually guarantees the preservation, but you can find really cool ways to display those admittedly beautiful PSA slabs. Best of both worlds.
I currently have no graded cards so maybe I’m not at liberty to say. But generally I prefer not graded cards, especially in the context of full sets. I have a full unlimited base set in a binder that I love and would hate to have to display a bunch of slabs for em. Worth noting id never dream of selling this
With that said, grading is definitely better for selling cards. and for a few high value venusaur cards that id like to display out id like to have graded ones even if they aint super high grades
I have a the whole base set in shadowless among a bunch of other wotc era cards. They’d probably grade PSA 4-5s. I do have a shadowless machamp though that is fresh out of the pack (deck box) which could get a 9. Centering will stop it from getting a 10. I still have a 2nd sealed starter deck too.
I’m not going to bother grading them though. It’s nice to have the binder alternative. I ended up buying a really nice side loading binder with zipper and put everything in penny sleeves. Up to you really as grading them offers even better protection, they can be displayed individually, and they’ll likely be worth more graded.
@gen2whore,I just got a nice binder that I’m planning on putting at least one of each base set card in, going to put my original holo mewtwo not the shiny! I pretty much just took this shiny out the binder because I saw how valuable it is and my binder is literally 20 years old so I didn’t want to mess up the conditon.
@draug,yeah admiral pointed out the extra protection aspect as well That’s one reason I wanted to send it in. Just so it preserves its value long term.
@brendantheclayboy,Yeah I already plan on filling a binder with at least one card of from each of the original 151 base but I just saw how valuable this shiny mewtwo was going for and have a regular holo mewtwo already for my binder so i took this one out. I agree though with everyone though binder for collection purpose
@brofessorchaos, @assassin5757,Yeah I planned on keeping at least one of each base set in a new side loading binder as well thanks for the replies guys
Echoing others here. Binders are great for sentimental cards if you got a whole lot of them. If you have the means to get duplicates to do a side-by-side graded collection, you’re more likely to get better grades if you find raw cards or buy graded to begin with.
If you take the latter approach, go for the high-end cards first while you can.
@azulryu,Yeah I’m already grabbing a few for cheap like base set blastoise played for 35, blaines arcanine and dark dragonite for both around 20. Going to go through what else I’m missing other then base set charizard.
