WTB: Ken Sugimori signed card

Hey guys!

I’m looking to acquire a Ken Sugimori signed card or a few.

My range is wide due to some Pokémon being more desirable compared to others and I know his signature is scarce.

Anywhere from 1k to 5k usd depending on said card / rarity / authenticated or not, etc etc

Please let me know if you have one for sale or know anyone who does. Much appreciated!

The Electabuzz linked above is owned by @swolepoke

If you grab it I will be able to stop thinking about buying it…!!

I have purchased a Sugimori signed card from him recently. He responds quickly to private messages here, ships fast, and is happy to share provenance info.

Tried working out a deal with OP back in May with no luck :’)

As stated previously, the signed Electabuzz card is my listing if you’d like to work something out. Other than that, all other Sugimoris I own are in the personal collection.

Either buy one from a trusted seller like Swolepoke or obtain one in person. Otherwise, you run a really strong chance of getting a forgery.

Why wouldn’t this be graded/authenticated as a legit signature? That would seem to add a lot of value

How so? I’m not looking to get a 1st Base Blastoise signed by him. That understandably so would be 4-5x the 5k budget

Appreciate the help, already saw the listing. Sadly I’m not looking to get a bigger sized card, just a standard one

Haha go for it man, it’s a cool piece!

We did, unfortunately back then funds were tighter. Couldn’t manage to pull a deal off without putting myself into a difficult spot.

If you decide to sell any others, do let me know. Thanks!

Appreciate the heads up. I’m aware of some autopen signatures around and even some fake signatures that have been incredibly “authenticated” by PSA

Will definitely be careful

I’ve heard a few people saying recently that PSA no longer authenticate Sugimori signatures. I don’t know how true that is, but it probably makes sense considering how many fakes they’ve graded in the past: www.elitefourum.com/t/fake-signed-cards-thread-even-psa-aut-be-careful/21305/1.

This look off but I’m not an auto collector so anyone who has more experience can share their opinion.

That Wynaut is a laughably bad forgery

Why do you say that? (I know nothing about signatures, so this is a genuine question)

It’s always tough to be 100% conclusive either way because of the inherent variability in signatures. It can also be hard to explain the subtle details that makes an auto “feel” off. Knowing the Japanese characters well is very helpful because the forgeries are almost exclusively from westerners but even absent that knowledge, the thing that really sticks out to me are the “S” and “R” in that signature.
