WTB: No. 3 trainer

Fell in love with the art at worlds, I’d also be interested in a No. 2…

…only sales I can find are on Virbank for 4ish thousand so I’ll start there.

@thundermoo just curious what your offer is on a #2?

Probably 4k as well, open to counters though!

Since I and maybe a couple other people are the only individuals here who could sell either of these cards, I will be completely transparent: I don’t listen to offers below 10k.

The only real way to get these cards under that price point is hope someone posts on virbank, and then will actually follow through with a deal. Majority of the Virbank posts either involves backing out entirely, or someone not being honest in the condition, payment preference, etc.

Otherwise attending the tournament is your best option for your desired price range. Of course that includes the literal costs of airfare, hotel, and then time value + effort. But you can obtain them for less on the ground floor, if you can get a winner to sell (pray a japanese player doesn’t win).

Anyway, good luck in your hunt! I am posting this so it can be a public reference or reality check as a ton of people want these cards, but severely underestimate how daunting they are to obtain.

Yikes! Sounds like it might be easier to get really good at the TCG and win the card yourself :open_mouth:

You get $25,000 for 1st place, and that beauty trophy card! :sunglasses:

Might be a dumb question, but what is Virbank? I hear about it on here but look it up on google and I don’t find anything.

It is a pokemon facebook sales page. Mostly low end-playable cards are listed there.

@jcincy101 a Facebook group with a deserved rough reputation.

Honestly thank you for this. I did not know the lower placements were in that high of a range. I made my best guess and clearly I was off haha

@thundermoo, Yeah no problem! The cards are so rare the value is naturally going to be extremely wide. I have paid a wide range in obtaining these and the winners stamped cards.

Yeah, I agree with this perspective and the one offered by smpratte. I don’t currently nor have I ever owned one of these cards but I’ve seen the World’s rush, virbank [attempted] sales and was around to see Hershey acquire and sell his #1. In general this is not a card you can “ask” for unless you have an obscene amount of money since you have to either 1)acquire it from a winner who didn’t want to sell it at worlds or 2)buy it off someone else who is well aware of the potential value and the difficulty of obtaining such a card. It’s not easy to convince either person to part with their card unless a serious amount of money is put down.

The strategy suggested by Hershey is to put yourself in a position to be likely to see one when it hits the market and to be ready to buy. This means monitoring virbank, building connections with people who will let you know when one appears, putting the money aside, going to World’s, finding the winners who still have their copy etc etc. Then, when an owner is ready to sell the card, they probably won’t fight hard for that 10k price tag and you can take advantage of your money saved and swiftness to make an offer to have larger control over negotiating

Just my 2c

“Pray a Japanese player doesn’t win” lol, thats a good line . I know they don’t sell their cards and I respect that.

What Hersey suggested is a broader version of the attending Worlds option I mentioned. Basically going to worlds is a microcosm of doing the leg work, getting your name out there, etc.

Either path is not easy. The inherent difficulty is why the hunt is so rewarding!

as someone who went through this game before, have the money open and choose who you deal with carefully. With these more modern trophies specifically I had people be extremely wishy washy. It went so far as fully accepting a deal and sending payment, just to refunded. Good luck !

I’ve seen multiple times someone list something for $X. Someone in the comments claims it and is willing and able immediately to pay full price (and sometimes even go as far to having paid like you said). Then cue the virstank peanut gallery of broke morons chiming in with “ZOMG I thought it was worth way more”, “I wouldn’t sell for that”, “i’ll pay $Y more” etc. and then deals fall through due to people commenting that don’t own and will never own such cards and have no ability to come up with that kind of money. It can be infuriating. Also 50 comments of “PM sent”. I can only imagine the garbage that goes down in PM’s and the fake bids that are either manufactured or hollow. Sometimes some of the garbage PM’s get spilled over into the trade complaints faecbook groups.

I wish people would hit eBay with these more often but even then someone links it over in virbank and trolls shill them up half the time.

@gottaketchumall, Funny you mentioned this pattern, piloul, that crazy french girl constantly misquotes something I told her once: “If you can’t afford a Porchse, your opinion on what it sells for is irrelevant”. Basically that exact situation of people who can’t afford the card, but will insert their baseless opinion.
