I wish you luck! According to pokemon price its a pop 5 so def a hard card to find. There are not many graded according to their pop report so idk if it is a notorious hard 10 to get or not but for $400 it might just be worth buying a bunch of raw versions as they are under $15 a piece on ebay and sending them in yourself.
I recently bought 8 raw nm cards that are all a max PSA 8. They all seem have fairly significant corner whitening from what I have seen, so I do think it is a tough grade! I have pulled one or two and they seem to have the corner wear straight out of the pack. Would be interesting to see how clean the 10s are!
Around this time the pokemon company bumped their quality from the black white terrible quality to the nice quality we now have. According to gengarcollects it happened after this set. So it is probably just a hard grade.
As for the card you’re chasing gengarcollects, very nice card! Good to see some wailord love, I love whales in real life so I love wailord as well.
Good luck on your chase!
XY era seemed very hit and miss. Some of the cards are usually 10s out of the pack but noticed that some of the full arts especially are cut really poorly! And thanks! Same here, I am on a misson to get as many Wailord reverse holos/holos/ex/gx in PSA 10 as possible!
I’ve graded nearly the whole BW and XY FA and SR in PSA 10 plus extras. I’ve had a lot of cards come through my hands and have opened 6+ cases from Legendary Treasure to SM. The marjority of the cards had edge and corner whitening. Some cards and sets were very prone to texture “bleeding” through on the back. This was most prominent in cards that had a circular FA texture. Hopefully that helps explain some of the issues with grading BW & XY era FA & SR.
Because of the difficulty and the price of PSA 8 & 9 cards I don’t see why Black and white and Flashfire are so valuable. I opened 10 total cases of Flashfire and got 1 FA PSA 10, 1 SR and about 8 other PSA 10s. expected value of these boxes are so low that it doesn’t make sense to open.
Thanks for this, interesting to hear from someone so experienced with the era! I have a Primal Clash booster box begging me to open it, but I know you’re right, 99% it’ll be a waste of money! Thanks for your insight.
Trust me. I feel you with the Full arts. I aboslutely love the BW & XY era. Your best bet is to keep putting feelers out there and looking for raw cards. Rather than a complete loss, you can get raw copies and sell at cost until you get your goal. I’m not sure people are very interested in these cards as they were pretty cheap up until a month ago. I think lots of people have been buying them, speculating on them going up since everything else. People want anything to hold onto to, to ride this pokemon investment train. It’s strange that cards that had no interest for years suddenly jump 2-4x value.
I have been slowly picking up cards I enjoy from the BW and XY era for a while as I missed out when both eras expansions were being released. The Wailord is a special case as I want to collect basically all of the English Wailords, chase cards such as holos/exs etc in PSA 10. I’ve been buying it raw for a while but instead of selling on they’re all just going in a binder haha. I will continue grabbing raw copies for $10-$15. Who knows, I might get lucky! Will also keep the buy thread open in case one of the 5 owners of a 10 happens to drop in! Thanks for your advice mate!
