I noticed Dacardworld has a preorder for a charizard hobbybox sale on their website.
Essentially it’s like their own version of those shitty auctions on ebay where the seller puts a bunch of high end cards in the auction description and pictures but the likelihood of getting one is slim to none. Because this is dacardworld though you should have at least some chance of coming away with something good.
The box guarantees you one graded holographic charizard per box and a Psa 8 1St edition charizard will be In one of these boxes. But as far as I can work out, you may also end up with a psa 1 charizard from flashfire for all you know as they don’t specify all the charizard psa cards that will be going into these boxes.
But for $120 it could be worth a punt right? There are some other nice cards you can also win as well.
What do people think? You can even buy a 10 box case if you really want to have a good crack at it. I’m not sure it’s worth that much in risk/reward though.
I wish that they would release a full list of the cards. I have a feeling that I would get a psa 4 charizard from generations (basically that most of the boxes people will get hosed on).
Being in NY I am unsure if this is even legal and am in shock that DAcardworld would partake in the garbage that these chance style listings are. The graded charizards most people will receive are probably PSA 8-9 low dollar promo ex’s with a value of $10-$20. Hard to tell what else this comes with besides a single graded charizard.
reverse charizards…evolutions etc i guess ha! And they wont release the full list as alot will be under 120$ worth. The ones listed are the ones worth getting I assume?
They’ve been doing their hit parade thing for sports cards and memorabilia for a while now, might be worth looking up what kind of stuff people have gotten out of those to get an idea on EV.
Yes that is how these things work. Parade the chance of a bunch of valuable items in front of people to get them to buy, 90%+ get trash worth far under what they pay. A few (if any…) get an actual valuable item though I would like to think D&A is actually doing it “legitimately” and actually giving the items out. It is definitely 100% against eBay’s TOS but they aren’t hosting it there. eBay specifically states you can’t do them on there due to it being illegal in many states. I am having a hard time finding the specific law for NY which is where DAcardworld and myself reside.
So many things are wrong with this. I know of many instances where local establishments hold what are essentially raffles like this and the winners are preselected to be someone in their favor. Or it can be a case where a few “premium” spots are sold out of public eye and those guys get the real chance at the good items increased price thereby increasing DA cardworlds actual take over $12k and they do so in exchange for advertising on social media their big “hit” giving perceived validity to and increasing traffic on the inevitable future “hit parades”. Such utter trash this is. I advise everyone to stay away.
If I had the money to throw out the window I would buy 2 or 3 just for shits and giggles. I’ve always loved these kind of things when the odds are more in your favor. I’d feel a lot better doing this with an actual legitimate website instead of an eBay seller.
I’m not well informed on the legality aspect of this but how is it different from the Funko Pop mystery boxes where you have a chance at a “chase” figure? Or Woots bag of crap, or Meh’s bag of whatever they call it?
For further simplicity you can easily in your mind relate it to the randomness inherent with booster packs. Go to wally world but a pack of burning shadows for $4. You mostly get useless junk. Rarely you hit a score like a $100 hyper rare charizard. In that case though you aren’t being advertised as X% chance to hit $Y value product. You are simply promised 10 additional game cards and a code or whatever the case may be.
In this case however they are explicitly advertising it as a low chance (1% since 100 are being sold) at a high value item(s). What they are doing is 100% forming a gambling raffle but skirting it via the letter of the law by making everyone a “winner” in that everyone gets some item. Therefore they are purchasing an item of low value with low odds on actually getting a high value item. I think this is how they avoid the raffle distinction even though everyone can clearly see this is a raffle whereby there will be 12 winners receiving a net gain and 88 losers getting far under $120 in value. I honestly think this would still fall under an illegal operation in NY, but can’t seem to find the specifics on it considering the extent to which they hide the nature of it. Definitely some interesting things at play here and I’ll probably give it some research tonight to see what I can find.
Please don’t advertise their garbage here. 99% of the people here are much too smart to fall for these scams.
Anybody who hosts these grab bags, especially the thieves at dacards, are pure scammers and the people who patronize them are total idiots.
Besides all that…go for it lol.
