Your craziest story of going through trouble to get a card?

So I am in the midst of a couple month long ordeal of trying to reach this seller…he has a ton of mint shadowless cards that look AWESOME on one of the selling apps. I contacted him through there and got a response months ago saying yes the collection was still available. I then said awesome I will pay full price (over $1000) and then no response for days. I kept messaging then he sent one more said I was bothering him and had responsibilities and would get back to me when he could. That was 2 months ago. I have messaged him multiple times since on two different accounts - I sent my wife to try to find him on facebook (which she did) and she sent a nice message on there which he never read. I told her to try to friend him but she was then blocked and never responded to. I’m thinking about setting up my own facebook and trying again - it’s an obsession at this point - I was paying full price! I’m very nice about it too…but it’s now been over two months of messaging and trying to get a response out of this sudden ghost.

Any of you have any over the top stories of going above and beyond to try to get a card and were you eventually successful?

I hate to say this - as it is really frustrating - but I would just forget about that purchase and move onto something else! No need to waste anymore of your time on one collection; there are still plenty of good deals out there - even on MINT Shadowless Product! You just have to be patient and constantly on the look-out.

I’ve had countless encounters similar to you - all through Flea Markets, Facebook, Craigslist (Those “Scam City” Places)… I think I’ve turned into Rick from Pawn Stars: “It’s not that I don’t trust you, I just don’t trust anyone” (SO TRUE!) LOL I’ve had people tell me they have “X” Card and are willing to sell for “X” Price only to find-out the Unlimited Charizard they actually have for sale isn’t the same as a PSA 10 1st Ed. Charizard. But Really, there’s so many instances where someone seems eager to sell and then disappears off the face of the Earth. I used to be like you - reaching-out to this person every once in awhile, it’s only ever worked-out once. Now I’ll just forget about them and move-on. If the deal doesn’t happen within a week or two, it’s not going to happen.

Yeah I just normally move on, I deal with so many no shows, ghosts, scammers everywhere - but this collection was…special. We are talking possible - I would say even probable 3 PSA 10 shadowless charizards in this lot - and that was just a highlight but a ton of other stuff. I’m not going to message every day or anything but I could see myself reaching out every couple weeks/month. Just wanted to see if there were any success stories on here to make me feel better, ha.

He probably sold them to someone else or decided to keep them tbh

I bet. But I can dream ha.

Strange that he would take the time to message you and not even mention making a deal lol
Anyway, best to leave him alone if he doesn’t respond on the original platform. Odds are they are gone anyway

I usually won’t spend nearly that degree of effort for an item. Time spent chasing is time lost catching low priced BINs

Anyways, craziest story is not so crazy, just really annoying:

I bought a sealed 1st edition true shadowless machamp that even said true shadowless in the title. $90! Pretty sick deal.

I receive it, packed well, timely… shadowed machamp.

Message the guy, he claims it’s the same card. I push back and say no, send him a pic and literally compare it in the pic to a PSA 8 shadowless machamp i have and he still says he doesn’t understand and that it’s the same card. We go back and forth like this for an hour and he gets continually more aggressive and starts insulting me for complaining so much. Basically the type of bullshit you can smell two states away. I gave him the benefit of the doubt initially that he doesn’t know about pokemon (his other listings were shoes and apparel), but once he started insulting me and refusing to agree to a return peacefully, it was clear that he was just a bait and switch flipper f***.

And to top it all off, this was the first time in 10 years on eBay that I’ve ever returned something. I pack it up and wait for the label. The dude spends 5 days messaging me telling me he doesn’t know how or where to buy a return label. I tell him you can buy it in the return opened case. He still whines and complains and promises to refund me the label price if I buy it to return. At this point I’m so absolutely tired of communicating with this guy who just exuded abrasiveness, that I agree. Did he refund the label? No, so I lost $2.79 literally for having the audacity to try to buy the item as advertised and for dumbly trusting a mean person.

Needless to say i was pissed so I left negative feedback saying he’s a terrible seller who lies, and this is the message i get back:

“Really you little bastard why leave me bad feedback over 3 dollars. Your a little cheap bitch. Im gonna see to it that you have a hard time selling your items just watch. That was a bitch move you did. I should of just kept your FukN money. Your a loser :fu:t4:

That experience made me check feedback every time now (he had a couple negative marks on there I didn’t check)
