Yugioh 25th Anniversary Boxes

Anyone opening the new 25th anniversary sets? I think they reprinted the first five sets. Which is pretty cool.

What’s is everyone’s thoughts on this. Does this affect the value of the originals? I know mtg doesn’t like reprints.

How would you feel if Pokémon did this?

I bought a few sampler boxes with the god cards and big 3, Red Eys, Blue Yes, Dark Magician.
I also bought a LOB box to open.

They look fun and I think they’re only like $40 per box

Would hate if Pokemon did this. For yugioh, they’ve been reprinting for decades so it’s not an issue lol. I bought 3 display cases (5 boxes each) for the 25th anniversary boxes and pulled some great cards, Blue eyes toon, blue eyes white, left arm exodia, and few other smaller hits. Got all the quarter century rares too. Ended up selling the 3rd case

I absolutely love reprints of iconic cards, and I will always be happy to buy products of this type. I don’t know if I will pick up the boxes (I’m totally broke at the moment lol), but I’ll surely buy a lot of singles in the future.

Still hoping that pokemon 30th will reprint neo or some of the best vintage cards, and that mtg will finally find out a nice balance to reprint things that everyone wants

I opened one of each box on Sunday and it was a blast! As a kid I could only open at most a few packs at a time so this made the child in my very happy. I want to do a binder of each set since the cards are relatively inexpensive. However, there are some cards that I would really like to pull myself from a pack so I may need to open another box of Legend of Blue-Eyes

I like it, picked up 2 boxes of LOB so far. I think it’s a good nostalgia product overall and not priced stupid high or anything. I doubt it will impact the original set values too much, people always place higher value on the true original set release usually. I mainly just want to build up binder sets for the artwork and nostalgia at this point as I planned to do this eventually. I just didn’t want to spend a fortune in the process buying the old/original set releases, so this product will fill the need quite well.

I picked up the box with the promos and a pack of each - pulled some nice cards, tempted to grab a magic ruler, metal raiders and ioc.

I have a dmoc still from back in the day and would love a chaos bls, blue eyes toon and a summoned skull in that lovely ultra print.

It’s not bad at $40. I bought a case at $25 per box. But the pull rate IS the same as the old release, so honestly, $40 is more than I’d want to pay if I can buy a booster box of LOB 25th A. for $80.

Please God do not look up Pokemon Evolutions :joy:

jk jk

Haha that is very fair. At least it tried to be its own set I guess. The yugioh is just straight up reprints including the booster box itself lol

That’s what I like. It’s straight nostalgia. I want mtg to do that and Pokemon too with anniversary stamps of course

I think its neat, but I don’t think I would ever want Pokemon to do this. I’d rather they stick to special event (20th, 25th, 30th, etc) type of reprint sets that have some character.

Yugioh is different than pokemon in the sense that certain card artworks need to be reprinted time and time again due to popularity on the show. When you see Joey summon red-eyes, you want the red eyes you own to look like that. With pokemon, Charizard is just a pokemon, many people do not have a connection to a specific artwork of the card which is why there isnt the need to do something like this in Pokemon.

With this in mind, this was a genious move by konami for two reasons:

1, they are not dumb. They are fully aware that even 2017 reprint packs of these from the gameboard editions were going for over $10 a piece per pack with some like LOB even being over $20. This is a way for them to cash in on that in a still high point in collectibles that we have never seen before.

  1. They saw the flop of magic 30 and were like oh we can def do this better than wizards and they truly did. These cards are not exact reprints like the old legendary collection ones were meant to do but do still bring that nostalgic feel back. The reason I am here today is because I saw the original legendary collection binders in target and was like woah, i can get the god cards, this is the coolest thing ever and then I pulled the head of exodia in the LOB pack in it. I thought i hit the jackpot and in a way i did. It wasnt financially but it was what rekindled my love for Yugioh and brought me back into card collecting. This is the goal of these reprints, to bring joy and nostalgia to those who used to collect, bring more exposure to the game and ideally bring in some new collectors back to the game. The edison format tournament completely filled up at this year’s nats. Konami is actually doing a good job at realizing that there can be support for both an old format as well as the current meta and are taking the right steps to grow the game (at least for those who are 20+ which is most people who can afford to buy cards). Will this impact the kids on the playground, probably not but this is a great way to engage with everyone who now has some money to experience what they wanted to back in the playground in 2003 and hopefully people are able to enjoy it!

I had some similar thoughts. When I saw this upcoming, it was everything I wanted Magic 30th to be. Affordable, basically the exact same cards, no extra drama or BS tied to it. What is surprising with MTG though is the 30th singles in high grades are going for a surprisingly high amount at auctions, so I guess people are fine with it.

Anyway, all I know is a long-term fan of both TCGs, I am definitely more happy with how Yu-Gi-Oh released this product.

I really want to buy these and will probably grab a blue eyes box or two. The cards are worthless though which is both great and terrible.

Yeah magic would have done so well if they did it like yugioh did. I think these sets are really fun. It’s like opening them like we did in 2002

I must have been lucky.
Got the blue eyes in the special rare, then the 6 packs gave me 2 supers and an ultra.

Definitely tempted for IoC, Metal Raiders and Magic Ruler, talk me out of it please haha

100%, I don’t understand why they never spiced it up or added something to chase.

Had to send out my immature response
