I recently purchased this Zapdos and upon scanning it I discovered that the Holo pattern is misaligned slightly to right. Leaving a noticeable non-Holo stripe on the card. Iv tried searching Efour for some discussion about this error, but haven’t had any luck so far finding information on this specifically. I did a little hunting on eBay for other copies to compare and noticed that some have this misalignment in the Holo in varying degrees, and others do not. Is this a legitimate error I just have not been aware of? Mind slightly blown. Lol
Iv never heard of this one, thanks for the info Acebren!
Not the most exciting error by any means but illustrates how quality was overlooked back in the day. I also think it’s interesting in a way being from 1st ed base - being one of the first errors WOTC let out.
I wonder what the 1st ever mass printed error card was? Lol
@acebren is indeed correct, but figured I’d post some examples of heavy shifted holofoil cards since you’ve never seen them before @ryanthelion . Here are some posted on IG:
One thing I do note is that they are all shifted downwards, which usually seems to be the case. Your Zapdos is slightly shifted towards the left. But it’s rather minor in comparison to these above.
I’ve also seen this error more often in Yu-Gi-Oh. I guess it can happen for any TCG where the Holofoil layers are added later on during the printing process.
Wow those are some really cool examples !
Thanks for taking the time to post those links. I have seen Holo patterns with extreme shifting like those examples before. I was referring specifically to the 1st Edition Zapdos from Base set as upon doing a little research I found quite a few copies with this same error. Curious what percentage of 1st ed Zapdos would contain this similar error? As the error was obviously caught and corrected, but when and for how long was this pretty hard to notice error printed is interesting to think about for me.
